You form a hypothesis before an experiment as a guess as to why you think something occurs. And then you proceed to complete the experiment to see if you're right- and if not, then you have more clues as to what is right.
A hypothesis is a guess or conjecture until proven true by repeated tests, in which case it may then become a law or theory.

A hypothesis cannot act as a universal principle. A hypothesis is basically a specific statement of prediction that describes in concrete terms what is expected to happen in a study. Read on from www.socialresearchmethods.net/kb/hypothes.php.

A universal principle is something that always applies. A hypothesis is a speculation, it's not proven, so it cannot be a universal principle.

The correct answer is D. A hypothesis never can act as a universal principal because it is, by definition, unproven.
