What name do romans call soccer?

Report as

Modern day Italians? Everywhere but America 'soccer' is called 'football'. 'Football' in Italian is 'calcio'.
Ancient Romans? Didnt have that game yet. They did have various ball games in which kicking and throwing and catching feature but no the game we know today. There was a non-team individual form of ball play that modern researches refer to as 'soccer' because the ball featured in mosaics appears similar to modern soccer balls. It was a childs street game, tho, not an organized sport and no ancient name is known for it. Some anceint ball game names that are known are Trigon, Harpasta, Expulsim Ludere, Phaininda, and Episkyros.

Do you mean like the ancient Romans, or modern day ITALIANS? I don't think they had soccer in the days of the Roman Empire. In those days they had coliseums and gladiators, etc. Perhaps they had a form of "soccer", but they sure were not known for it. However modern times like now, they do have the soccer sport, which they call football.
