How did our population grow from just Adam and Eve?

if Adam and Eve had kids. would the kids populate with each other? does that mean we're all related?

Report as

It didn't- that story is a myth.

Report as
You can't prove it did.

Care to provide the statistics that shows that 7 billion people came from, what was it, Noah's family of 8, Lersion?
Report as
@Chris I never said I could. A lack of evidence isn't evidence against.
@Amin Considering that the Bible records people having longer lifespans, and ancient parents weren't today's parents who want to only have 1 or 2 children, it's logical.
Report as
So then, a lack of evidence in unicorns would allow you to assume they exist? A lack of evidence in a teapot orbiting the Sun between Earth and Mars allows you to assume it exists? Why not just assume there's a civilization of fairies living in Antarctica? After all, "A lack of evidence isn't evidence against."
Report as
It depends on what it is. For something like what you mentioned, then yes, a lack of evidence would suggest it doesn't exist. HOWEVER, the only possible evidence for a historical event like Adam and Eve is archaeological evidence. In which case, archaeological evidence for Adam and Eve would be unexpected.
Report as
After all, let's suppose the story of Adam and Eve is true. Can you think of a single thing that would prove their existence? Of course not. Even if their bones were still intact(which is extremely unlikely by the way), and we were able to find them(also extremely unlikely), can you honestly say that people would come to the conclusion that they were Adam and Eve's bones?
Report as
Of course not. However, your argument is claiming that because there's no evidence for it, there's a possibility that it could be true. Given the mythical dogma that surrounds the Adam & Eve fable, I think we can safely toss that possibility aside. There's no scientific way a man can be created from dust nor a woman from a man's ribs.
Report as
Well, that's just one of the situations where we can say "God did it". It's the same as making the universe out of nothing.
Report as
Not necessarily. A unification of general relativity with quantum field theory will allow universes to pop into existence from nothing. "God did it" will eventually be silenced (unless to those who wish to continue using it).
Report as
I suppose, but that's not the point. If God exists, he's the one who created the universe. If a he's powerful enough to create the universe, he's powerful enough to make a man out of dust or a woman from a man's ribs.
Report as
That's contradictory. If a god exists, one who is powerful enough to create the universe, he wouldn't need to resort to magic to create humans. He would orchestrate life through the first self-replicating molecule, followed by evolution. I say "resort to magic" because magic is subordinate to physical laws.
Report as
@ AminXVII

There is no such thing as " self-replicating molecule " That is a myth ... (discussable ~ if you want ~ )
===
And your sentence " A unification of general relativity with quantum field theory will allow universes to pop into existence from nothing " Is a misleading one ... we discussed that before ...

===
" There's no scientific way a man can be created from dust nor a woman from a man's ribs. "

So a life can exist from non-living materials and through magical imaginary scenarios become a Dinosaur?!! Come on Amin ... !
Report as
Not a myth, but rather constructive speculation that has yet to accumulate evidence. I know there's no evidence for life's origin. My point in referencing the molecule was that IF there is a god, he would create life using the physical laws that HE himself created. Resorting to magic is for children. Don't tell me you believe life was created by magic. I can accept the fact that you don't believe in "self-replicating molecules." But tell me, how do you believe life was created? How do you think your god created you? There has to be some science behind it.

The same goes for the universe's explanation -- IF your god exists, we will eventually uncover the scientific processes that he used to create the universe. You seem to constantly knock down my speculations, insisting that "god did it." Yet, you cannot tell me HOW he did it. I'm not insisting you don't believe in god. What I urge you is to use science to understand HOW your god created the universe. If he created life like you said, fine! That's great! Now tell me how.
Report as
Let me tell you the fallacy you fall on ... " Judging God by our understanding "
God is not limited by anything ... He can create life in whatever form He wills to .
===
" How do you think your god created you? "

He created the first man " Adam " in perfect state , in a human form .. the same like us and He created Eve form him ... from Dust ...
===
" Not a myth, but rather constructive speculation "

No , it is a myth ... In order for a protein to be able to self-replicate, IT NEEDS

*Other proteins
*DNA
*Ribosomes
*Endoplasmic reticulum
*Cytoplasm
*Energy manufacturing mitochondria
*And the cell membrane.

And don't tell me that chance created all these things at the same time magically , because that is another myth ..
===
I an not saying we should not search for the way ,,, we should ,,, but science shouldn't involve daydreaming ,,,especially if it was impossible to happen
Report as
You just told me Adam was the first man. Unbelievable. Somebody as smart as you, who understands a lot about the universe (if you remember our last debate), believes there existed a "first" human -- made from dust.
Report as
The direct creation of Adam (peace be upon him) can neither be confirmed nor denied by science in any way. This is because the creation of Adam (peace be upon him) was a unique and singular historical event. It is a matter of the Unseen and something that science does not have the power to confirm or deny. As a matter of the Unseen, we believe it because God informs us about it. We say the same for the miracles mentioned in the Quran. Miraculous events, by their very nature, do not conform to scientific laws and their occurrence can neither be confirmed nor denied by science.

But my belief is not bullied on nothing ... i have sufficient evidences for my religion to believe whatever it says ... which we may discuss them someday ...
Report as
That is utter nonsense. There is no such thing as "evidence for religion." Religion bases itself on notions without evidence, aka faith. It is pointless on my side to debate with someone who thinks illogically. If you wanted to debate speculative science (origin of life; origin of the universe), that's one thing. But to tell me that Adam's creation via dust cannot be discussed scientifically is a cop-out. Further, you stated that "science shouldn't involve daydreaming." If by daydreaming you mean speculation, then you are wrong. We've discussed this. Every theory in science starts out as speculation. Evolution, for example, started out as speculation via observation, then progressed to hypothesis, then theory. Whether you care to accept that transition is up to you. You should know that without speculation, the scientific method would not function. That is a fact.
Report as
" That is utter nonsense. There is no such thing as "evidence for religion." Religion bases itself on notions without evidence, aka faith. "

Quote " Faith does not mean - as atheists would often repeat - belief without evidence! This sick extrapolation of fallacy on all faith is a fanatic reaction to the false faith someone like Dawkins may have been brought up on as a child or surrounded with in his society! The man simply does not know what it's like to be on a true faith which qualifies to be the valid truth in perfect accord with reason and evidence! "

It's your assumption that " religion have no evidence " . Had that been the case then how could i say to someone with other religion that he is wrong if we are all believe by faith with no evidence !

Quote : " I follow strictly the teaching of this magnificent verse of the Quran, and the knowledge that follows it in the Wisdom of Sunnah:
((Say Bring forth your evidence if you were telling the truth)) Translation (2|111)

This is the basic axiom of reasoning that every Muslim who is well established in his faith, stands upon! "
===
If you have been brought up in a religion which you saw that is offers no evidence and that it is illogical ... then that doesn't mean to throw your conclusion on ALL religions !
===
" But to tell me that Adam's creation via dust cannot be discussed scientifically is a cop-out. "

Why do you expect everything to be discussed by science ! It is the same fallacy ; you want to judge God by our knowledge ! God is able to create Adam from whatever He wants ... There is nothing illogical in that ... After all He is God !
===
" Every theory in science starts out as speculation "

~ speculation via observation ~ If that is the case ... then i don't have a problem with that ... but speculations built on ideology ... then i think i have a problem with that ...

We are all related in a way. The Human family all comes from the same place, the Ocean.. If you go with the religious explanation we are all descendents of Noah, it was like a new beginning.

Good question,
How did different races become?
UNless Adam and Eve were every race

Adam and Eve were a race that had the genes for every race in them. Even today there have been people who had twins and one was black and the other was white.

we all came from the same anestor, through evelution over billions of years. the reason why we have different races is because of heat, primarily anyways. the humans nearest to the equator were of darker skin tones, as we ventured further and further away from the equator, we no longer needed our dark pigment, so it faded away through evolution and adaptation.

Hi Shelby! Of course, no one can know the truth of the matter until we are in the presence of the Lord, but we can kick around a few ideas here:). Lets remember that the Bible can't possibly tell us everything that ever happened, and that brings in the idea that God created more men and women than Adam and Eve, he just didn't tell us about them. Here's something interesting...look at Genesis 4:16,17" And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife..." (see there...he found himself a wife...). Now let's skip over to Genesis 6:1" And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them. That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose." (Okay, see how they make a distinction there between "the sons of God" and "the daughters of men" ? There's something to that ...). Now this is not an open and shut case, because the Bible says that all men came into the world with a sin nature, thru Adam's sin, but what about these other people? More questions! Anyway, thanks for your cool question, I'll be seeing you around! PS Cute baby!

There is no presentable evidence Adam and Eve ever existed. The sheer variety of human physical traits make our descending from a single mating pair, particularly in the time frame presented in Genesis, logistically and biologically impossible. Supernatural mysticism aside, Paleontology has all but entirely disproven the Garden of Eden fable.

"He created all the people of the world
from one man, Adam." ( Acts 17:26)
Living Bible. Also ; " When Adam had lived a hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. The days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were a Hundred thirty years; and he had other sons and daughters: Thus all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died. ( Genesis 5:3-5) Revised Standard Bible The bible warns against blindly believing what others teach. " Only a simpleton believes what he is told! A prudent man checks to see where he is going." ( Proverbs 14:15) Living Bible. You can check for your self about the origin of life. Five questions worth asking.
1# How did life Begin?
2#Is any form of life really simple?
3#Where did the instructions come from?
4#Has all life descended from a common ancestor?
5#Is it Reasonable to believe the Bible ?

Species are supposed to change by allele mutation, something that occurs at a known rate. This necessarily means that breeding pairs are typically unique in generation 1. But because they are remarkably adapted for survival in their ecosystem, they outbreed or thrive better than competitive life in their ecological niche. Typically, even evolution proposes relatively small numbers of unique breeding pairs, given generation zero.
Secondly, according to many theories of evolution, it is quite likely the unique breeding pairs were closely related, so that allele conjugation would allow for traits to become inheritable.
So don't worry; even evolution says that it was initially a small breeding stock and they likely interbred.

In the early days of Adam and Eve it wasn't possible to get the blood disease that comes from marrying someone in your own family. And "incest" was not a sin at that time either. Adam and Eve had many children, not just the ones in the first few chapters.
