Can I give my 8 day year old kitten a bath?

He has fleas on him and I really want to get them off in a safe way. I found him in the shed of my grandfathers backyard. Do you have any tips or anything? Thank You :)

IVORY shampoo has a thick, rich lather to suffocate them. Work it in for at least 8-10 minutes. Start at neck so they don't all run up on his head and face! and use a flea comb on his head while the lather is on it. If you have a fresh pot of boiling water, add a few drops of dish soap (but don't make a suds 'head'!) you can dip the COMB with fleas on it and it kills them. You have to be so careful at that age to be ORGANIC and safe! Do this process every other day for a week or 2 so you're ahead of all the eggs that hatch! Use luke warm water on the little one or hyperthermia could happen. Lastly, see if your pet supply store OR a gourmet cooking supply store carries FOOD-GRADE Diatomaceous Earth. (Please Google for more info) I owned a pet boarding kennel for 25 years and have 3 degrees in animal science. Hope this is helpful! GOOD LUCK!

So repeat this for a week or 2?

Yes. Fleas lay eggs constantly, so they will hatch the same way. Just always seems like the third day is too long and you'll see tiny babies, and every day dries the skin too much, and every other day keeps one step ahead. Fleas have a larvae life stage between egg and adult hatch, and are most vulnerable- so that's what you're killing. I highly suggest going to a vet office for the best products to use in the house. Trust me, they might cost more, but will work better than wasting money from pet supplies stores which don't work!

I bet your local pet shelter, or humane society would have the answer

You can give him a bath, try to make sure the water is not to hot. Make sure to keep him somewhat halfway above the water and just use your hand to put water on him.

Do you mean he is 8 days old? Or 8 years old? Or 1 year 8 days old?
sorry for answering a question with another question, but it does make a difference

I should've re edited that I meant 8 days old.

That can be risky, since you have to make it quick, and warm (but not to warm!) and dry them right after, since they can not keep their body heat up on their own, also the house would need to be warm and you have to make sure to not have deep water at all (not even inches deep) and would need to be holding the kitten the whole time, and avoid getting any water in it's eyes, nose, ears

Does he have a mom?

Also talk to the vet before. And if you have to bathe him, use blue dawn dish soap, search online or ask the vet how. I heard this is the only sad way to kill fleas on a young kitten, since they are not old enough for flea treatment. Also you will need to buy a flea comb, it might work best if you comb him before his bath, and after. Maybe even once before he is dried and once after. And you will need to do this a few times, until they are gone. Ask the vet how much he would suggest. Do you know all the proper things you need to to take care of a newborn kitten? If not ask the vet, research, and you can ask me any questions. I raised my cat from the time she was a few weeks old, she was abandoned by her mom. She is 3 now and happy and healthy. It can be done and the kitten can be perfectly without its mother but it takes a lot of time ad money, if you can't do it don't feel bad, you can take him to your local humane society. You can also look around for it's mom and siblings, since it is likely there are more kittens.

Don't submerge the head in water. Wipe the head and face with a wet cloth. Make sure the water is warm and you should complete the process in 3-4 minutes, to not let the little one think he will be there too long.

Of course use a flea comb and repeat daily if needed.

I just got 2 kittens! Dawn dish detergent. Use it. I promise it is 100% safe AND kills the fleas. Buy a flea comb and bathe them in the detergent and than comb them and dip the fleas in alcohol to make sure you killed them! Hope I helped!

There are some special flea shampoos that are safe even for tiny kittens like this, depending on which country you live in (every country has different laws regarding medical products and insecticides etc) There is a product called Aquilla which is safe for kittens. You need to ask your vet about that. Remember too, that your kitten will also have worms and will need to have innoculations sometime, so you will need to take the little one to the vet for all that. Well done for saving the kitten and I hope you will have a happy and healthy pet for many, many years to come.

If he had worms then that would explain that he has a hard time pooping and or not pooping at all?

He might get sick so its better if you put some shampoo and water on the small part which contains dirt and clean it up, anyways his mom is supposed to clean him up so where is she?
