What can I do to get rid of greasy hair?

Even when I'm not in the hot weather, or exercising, I always seem to get greasy hair, even when wearing my hair in a pony tail.

Report as

Wash it either everyday or every other day. You need to wash it regularly. You don't realize this, but every time you run your fingers or a brush through your hair you are pulling oil out of your scalp pores and spreading it throughout your hair and the rest of your scalp.

Actually, you shouldn't wash it more often, shampoo strips your hair of oils, and it sends signals to your scalp that it needs more oil because now its too dry. So the scalp send more oil to make up more the lost oil, and there you go, even greasier hair than you started with.

That might be causing a problem because dandruff shampoo moisturizes a dry scalp.... I'm pretty sure that will make it more greasey

Wash it with shampoo everyday. If you already do, then use less conditioner. Make sure that you're not putting much conditioner at the top of your head, or none at all even. Conditioner is mostly for the ends of your hair. Experiment with different shampoos and see what works best with your hair type.

Mix the equivalent of the juice from 1
lemon with 1 cup water. Pour through
your hair, and then rinse with warm
water.
Soak your hair in a small basin of
water with 1/4 cup cider vinegar, or
put the concoction in a spray bottle,
and spray on your hair. Then wash it
out with warm water.
These remedies also help control
nasty shampoo buildup.

A quarter-sized amount of shampoo should be sufficient. Increase it a little if you have extra long or thick hair, and decrease it to a dime-sized amount if you have thin or short hair. Don't scrub your scalp with shampoo. You scalp does not need to be scrubbed clean; besides irritating it, scrubbing your scalp with shampoo will certainly make your oil glands overactive.

Yeah, but if she has dark hair, the baby powder will show up on her scalp. I recommend, if your in a hurry, a spray bottle filled with lemon juice, water. and vinegar, equal parts. Spray on hair and it should dry it up a little.
Report as
You can make your own dry shampoo. I think thats what you were getting at with the baby powder. You can put cocoa pwder in it for dark haired girls. Or something. Look it up.

I myself use water and the grease comes out. But washing is a lot better. I recommend pantene for you if you're a woman. But use shampoo and conditioner to rid the smell.

Don't use too much shampoo. Don't use shampoo with sulfates. Your head produces oil keep your scalp and hair healthy, but if your looks like it needs to be washed again a few hours after you shampoo it, your oil production may be out of balance.

Wash it, you need to find a really good shampoo to help, I heard that alternating shampoos will help I found this answer on the internet: "I have the same problem. I wash my hair w/ Pantene smooth & sleek (or something like that). But I alternate too which I heard is good. I use DOVE beautifully clean along w/ tresamay moisturizing shampoo/conditioner. I have HEARD that Dawn soap will help w/ OILY hair, but I wouldn't recommend using it on a daily basis. It will dry out your hair if you do. Sometimes, the volumizing shampoos dry out your hair -- I have used Redkin Body Full & it smells SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! It dries out my hair after a while...

Good lucK!!!

ALSO -- Make sure you are washing it THOUROULY & really good & rinsing everything out!!!"

Just wash it more often. When you sweat you work up a good grease through your hair. Just make sure not to get your greasy hair in your face. Then you could get acne, and no one likes that!

I cannot use any conditioner. I had extremely oily hair. I use the "H&S" or generic brand dandruff shampoo without conditioner. Use cold water for your final rinse to close pores. Don't use hot blow dryer on your scalp. Limit your fat intake.

I know this is long, but please read it, I think it will help you. It has several tips on what to do :-) DO NOT wsah your hair more often!!! Washing your hair with shampoo strips your hair of its natural oils that it needs to stay healthy, and if you wash it more often, then you are just sending signals to your scalp saying that it needs more oil, so it sends out more oil, and there you go, you have even greasier hair than you started with. I wash my hair once a week, and not even with real shampoo or conditioner, I used to wash it every other day with shampoo, and if I skiped a day, it would get greasy and flat looking, so you could try washing it LESS often. If you do, there will be a trasition period where you feel like your hair will never be normal, but after a few weeks to a couple of months, it should be over. Another thing your could use is dry shampoo, you can even make your own! Just mix some cornstarch, baking soda and essential oils together. Look up DIY dry shampoo. !!!!! Theres more in the comments section.

As others hae suggested, use a clarifying shampoo, but they can be expencive. So once a week or so, you can mix about a tablespoon of baking soda into your shampoo and wash your hair with that. The baking soda will clarify your hair and scalp and your hair is going to feel super light and amazing. ANOTHER thing you can and should do is use shampoo and conditioner sparyingly!! Only shampoo your scalp! Not your roots or they will dry out. And only use onditioner on your roots and a little on your mid section. If you use conditioner on your scalp, it just makes it more greasy. I hope this helped!! Sorry, it was long.

Don't ever wear it up or it will just get grease and stay that way. Wear it down and let it blow in the wind much like your face does when you riding with an open window. I use to do this a a child. My oily face would get dry for a few minutes and then change back. You can also use regular soap on your hair and don't condition it. I wash the nape of my neck hair with soap when I shower.

I heard that flour works if you want to absorb oil. Maybe it's the shampoo you use that strips your hair of oils, sending messages to the scalp that you need to produce more oils.

Try using cooler water, Using water that is too hot makes your scalp produce more oils and it becomes a never ending cycle. If your hair is fine, you may be able to skip conditioner all together. If you must use conditioner, put it on the ends only.

Some ways to get rid of greasy hair are to wash your hair regularly, use shampoos designed for oily or greasy hair, and don't use too much products that weigh hair down. Don't use heavy sprays. Instead, go for a light conditioning mist.
