Well, never give a newborn juice, sugar water, syrup water, food, laxatives, or an enema without consulting your doctor. Do not attempt to stimulate their rectum with thermometers or anything else without first getting a doctors opinion. Remember too that newborns haven't figured out how their bodies work yet, so when they do poop they may sound like they are straining too much as though they are constipated when in fact they are just trying to figure out how to push the poop out. As long as the poop is soft then he/she is not constipated. A constipated baby will have thick hard poop. You can try to help her by trying any of these activities: Gently move her legs in a bicycle motion. Bring both her knees up to her chest and then straighten her legs back out repeating this a few times. Gently rub her lower tummy in a circular motion. Place her in a warm bath while rubbing her tummy as described above.
