What are some good crime/horror novels and authors?

I need some authors like Laurence Block. And some books like Hope To Die. If you've read it then you know what kind of books I'll want. And if you don't, do yourself a favor and read it.

I love to read... and the author that I can't get enough of right now is Gillian Flynn. She wrote "Sharp Objects", "Gone Girl" & "Dark Places". A 3 I was unable to put down. They were so good, kept me intrigued and had me second guessing everything. They were impossible to figure out before the end. I believe "Gone Girl" is being made into a movie right now. And Stephen King said that Gillian Flynn was the best new author of Thrillers/Mystery novels that he's read in a long time. Sooooo Gooood!

I've never read those books myself, but I'll keep an eye out for them. My favorite horror writers are Brian Keene, Nate Kenyon, and Jeff Strand. I think Jeff Strand is amazing and I finished him the first time I started reading his book. I'm not like that with most authors. For most authors, I read a little bit of their book and go back to it after a few years.

I'd recommend Penpal, by Dathan Auerbach. It can be kind of slow just because of how the chapters are, but it's well written, can get really scary, and the plot isn't all that predictable.

Edgar Allan Poe had a pretty twisted mind, and he wrote some pretty messed up stuff. Check out some of his poetry.
