Many, moons ago that tactic was tried. Like insects the gangs disappeared into the woodwork. Maintaining a military force is expensive. After a few weeks with little results to show for it the military was pulled out. After two months the insects began to creep back in. The answer was to build up the police force and empower the local citizens.
You mean that government that probably isn't going to get paid after today? And that would mean martial law for everyone who lives there. That is not what the US is about. Why isn't the local police department doing more would be a better question.
Turn the US into a military police state, you mean? We have laws that protect ALL Americans from such police/military action. If there were laws allowing it in LA or New York those same laws would allow it in our own neighborhood should the govt decide to do it. In a free democratic society we cannot single out one population to erase all laws and rights for. Innocent until proven guilty is a right belinging to all Americans. And many innicent people kive in the same areas gang members do. What do you propose the mitary do? Violate privacy rights if all the people and go thru their homes roundung up all young men and women between ages 12-25 on the possibility that they MIGHT be in a gang? And when they detain these hundreds of young people who is going to pay to guard and feed them and pay their court costs? Us, the tax payers. Basically what you are saying the US should become Russia or China and give the military police powers over US citizens.
Well. They could. If the state thinks the problem is too great, they can ask for the national guard to be sent in. IDK if they called them in on this one, but look up LA riots. I forget if it was the 80s or 90s, but they were headline news at the time, and the police were pretty active during them, so maybe that works for an example.
For one thing, gang members are unpredictable and usually armed and angry on some level. For another, 99% are involved in the distribution of illegal things such as drugs and black-market guns, and a lot of people depend on them for that. It's sort of an economic thing. Then there's the prisons that are already completely overcrowded. Then there's the 'I've got more important things to think about" attitude that maybe could make a difference.
It's illegal. What the government needs to do, is respect the Law aka the Constitution. They need to abolish all gun control laws, on the grounds that they are Unconstitutional, because they violate a Reserved People Power (U.S.C. Amend.X.). In Law, a right is defined to be a Power, Privilege, or Immunity secured to a person by Law. The Second Amendment says that that right shall not be infringed. Therefore, gun control operates under Color of the Law.
