how long is this government shut down suppose to last?

also I don't understand the shut down either.

Dont know how long but it's all about ObamaCare. The republicans are taking issue with some pieces of it. ObamaCare started out as a Bill which Congress passed. Then the president signed it into law. So it's a law and republicans in Congress are making no sense because they approved the bill.

@Religiousman: It's called "the will of the majority". It is a primary element of our constitutional republic form of government. But the sad part about this shut down is that it is to defund Obamacare. While it will end up defunding a whole bunch of agencies which will have a negative ripple effect throughout our economy, Obamacare is law and is immune from defunding since the funds were already in place. Obamacare will be, and is, implemented whether there had been a shut-down or not. This is such a waste.

Actually, the last offer was full funding. All Congress had to do was give up their exemption. They only have to live with the rules of their own law. But Reid doesn't want to make a deal, because he's so selfish, he wants his special perks which nobody else can get. And somehow, he won't even negotiate about THAT. It's not about defunding-- it's down to Democrats shutting down the government to preserve their perks.

It has shut down 6 times before in our country's history and it hasn't lasted more than 3 weeks. So no more than 3 weeks

These partial government shut downs that have been forced on the people by the republican tea party are very costly.

Thanks boo.

Facts are facts religious. The tea party republicans wanted the shut down. They forced it on the people. No one else did. Don't get me wrong. There are some republicans that have more sense. Not much more sense. But at least enough to know they are damaging the country by forcing a shut down. Unfortunately, their relative intelligence, when compared to tea party republicans, is not matched by their courage. Of that they have none.

No one really knows but my guess is about two weeks, The budget needs to go through so they can raise the debt ceiling. The debt ceiling needs to go through so we don't default on loans. We have debt payments due on the 15th I believe. If it is not a done deal by then we lose our role as a world power. As bad as the DC children are acting I don't see them letting that happen.

It's all Obama Care, the shutdown can last anywhere from a few hours being the shortest and the longest being around a month. My guess would be around a week.

Before it was shut down for 21 days I think. It is extremely scary for many people that work for the government and everyone. Things will run okay like normal for a little. The longer this goes on the longer it will take for people to get paid. (People that work for the government).

The last offer the Republicans made was full funding for Obamacare, IF the congress drops their special exemption. See, Obama gave them an exemption to the SPECIFIC part of the law that said Congress had to live with the healthcare themselves. Well, too many of the Democrat staff in the Senate said they would bolt for a lobbyist or private job, so Obama told the OMB to pay for 72% of their medical policy. No other people can get this-- it's also against the law that Congress passed. So much for Democrats wanting to point out how it's a law and it's legal...
This shutdown is all about one thing: Congress preserving their special perk. They are shutting down the government because they want to preserve their perks. Let's see how that plays once the media gets ahold of it.
