Does the federal shutdown affect the food assistance program?

Report as

It's distributed by the state, although the state receives some reimbursement from the federal gov't. So as far as I'm aware no, the shutdown has no effect on SNAP.

It affects Meals on Wheels which receives funding through the Older Americans Act, Medicaid dollars and USDA. Many people were cut from the program as a result of the sequester and more will be as a result of the Republican's hostage taking government shutdown strategy. Without donations and other funding sources, this program would be shut down completely, leaving many older Americans malnourished and hungry. So much for Republicans caring about the elderly, the sick and the poor.
