Is there anything that can make quitting cigarettes easier?

I've been a non smoker for 3 years. E-cigs helped me a great deal! I used them for about 3 1/2 months and they gave me a the will I needed to not smoke.

Several things, take the money you spend on them EXACTLY,put it away every day, then count it every wk, then at the end of one month.
Second, look at the cig. Pack, then yourself in the mirror, then ask yourself WHO'S TOUGHER!

I quit 33years ago after smoking 2 packs a day for over 10 years. Here's how.
First of all, you REALLY have to WANT to quit. Think of the way it makes you feel in the morning when you wake up coughing and wheezing. Think of how your house and car stink. Think about the ashtrays full of butts all over your house. Think of all the money you'll save by quitting and what you could do with it. These are a few of the things that make you really have a desire to be successful.
Then I carried a pack of cigarettes with me all the time. Whenever I pulled them out of my pocket I told myself that I can go another 10 minutes without one. 10 minutes later I'd pull them out and tell myself "another 10 minutes won't kill me" and I'd put them away. And so on... That way you are quitting for 10 minutes at a time rather than committing to a lifetime without your best friend, the cigarette. After a few weeks, the nicotine is out of your system and the psychological addiction becomes more apparent. At this point you can probably stop carrying them around with you. I started having dreams that I smoked a cig and would wake up in a panic then realize with great relief that it was just a dream and I hadn't fallen off the wagon. This went on for MANY years. Now I have smoking dreams but I have learned to enjoy them, knowing they are not real.
Quitting smoking was the most difficult thing I've ever done, but extremely rewarding because I consider it to be a MAJOR achievement in my life.
Best of luck to you, and I hope you find this helpful.

Undoubtedly, your self-control. Nicotine Gums are somewhat helpful but people who used nicotine-replacement therapies (for a long duration) had a higher risk of heart palpitations and chest pains.

Exercise. Even if it's just for five minutes. Preferably while listening to music. It'll take your mind off smoking and it'll make you feel better, and if it doesn't and you're wheezing and coughing, you'll have another reason to quit. You should be able to exercise for five minutes and if you can't, then you know you have a problem. That will help motivate you. Or telling yourself to exercise for five minutes every day will be a goal to distract you from the real goal - quitting smoking. Exercise in general helps with a lot. It increases dopamine - a neurotransmitter that treats numerous health problems and helps control the brain's reward and pleasure centers - and releases endorphins. You can read more about it here --> http://www.self.com/fitness/2012/05/benefits-of-exercise Exercise is a life-saver.

Start smoking less each day. Chew gum, eat something like baby carrot, celery sticks or fruit when you get the urge to smoke. Change your smoking time habits. Exercise or power walk if get that smoking feelings. Keep your cigarettes in the garage not too close to you. Good luck and remember that every cigarette that you smoke takes about seven minutes of your life. Look at lung cancer photos, not too pretty. Good luck.

Hi ... George here from Australia and I was a heavy smoker for 50 years and although I did not really want to give up ,I promised my wife that I would give this system a try. That was two and a half years ago and I havent had a smoke nor missed them at all. Dont know if you can get these in the States but if you can you will give up easily. The tablets are called Champix and are a prescription drug and redily available in Aussie with a script.
Prior to this I had tried everything ... with NO success !! These DO WORK .. Good Luck

Non-smokers have no idea of the crutch cigarettes place on you. To avoid eating or over-eating, you light up. To calm yourself when you're anxious or nervous, you light up. The cigarettes themselves are drug composed. Nicotine is addictive. Anyone who tells you otherwise has never had a serious dependency on cigarettes. The best way to quit is to never start. Once your body becomes acquainted with it, it then becomes an addiction. I smoked for 40 years. Started at a time it was socially acceptable and encouraged. Expect weight gain, you will most likely find a need to put something in your mouth in lieu of a cigarette. Now, unfortunately, this country shows severe signs of bigotry towards anyone who isn't built like a pencil - most of that is directed at females. There are quite a number of factors that influence smoking. You'll have to overcome them one at a time and convince yourself you're a person worthy of respect regardless of what you do or how you look. Unless you find a doctor that either smokes or used to smoke, I found they don't have the answer or the patiences to help you through the transition and any prescribed, approved drug is a joke. Good luck.

When you feel like smoking think about a corpse, someone that died from smoking. Think about a skull exhaling smoke, every time you feel like smoking..

Every time u need a cigarette, just take a fist full of anni seeds in raw form. They will cover both your nicotine requirements plus bad breaths leaving a sensation of fresh aroma.

Here are some things that will help:
1. Have good reasons to quit-self esteem, health of yourself and loved ones, desire to be clean physically and morally before self and god
2. Set a date to quit and follow it. Go cold turkey; it hurts fast, but heals fast
3. Break up any cigarettes in the house and pour water over them. Clean all your tobacco smelling clothing
4. Avoid tobacco-laden atmosphere and smoking friends while completing withdrawal from nicotine. Visit places where smoking is forbidden
5. Save the money you would have spent on tobacco and count it after a month, then buy something you really need or a gift for someone else to celebrate
6. Keep yourself and your hands busy when you would normally reach for a cigarette. Chew gum, clean teeth after meals, walk write letters, sew, garden, repair things, clean the car
7. When feeling nervous of under stress, breathe slowly and deeply. Drink plenty of water and fruit juices
8. Exercise
9. Cut down on alcohol intake. The 2 often go together.
10. Pray earnestly to hod for help and then act in accordance with your prayers
