I'm 13 my parents are divorced, I don't want to live with my father, but I don't know if I have a choice or not who can I talk to for help?

also keeping in my mind I won't be able to pay for help, I just really need help to understand the situation more clearly

You're 13, so you are definitely not a little kid. At this age, you really should have some say as to where you live. Ask to see a court counselor (called a Mediator) and talk about your feelings on this matter. Maybe part time with one parent, and part time with the other? It will work out.

Start with your school counselor. A lot of people don't want to see their counselor, but it does help. Tell them about your situation.
You also might want to get a book out of the library about the subject.

You have no say in where you live until you're 18, it's just the way the law works. BUT if there is a custody hearing then a judge may choose take your opinion into account. Otherwise it's just what your parents decide, though you can certainly talk to them about it.

If there is a serious reason that you don't want to live with him, such as abuse or bad influences, you should talk to your mom about it, and be honest with any CPS agents, law officers, or judges that may be involved.

Same thing happened with me. In California, when you are 12 you have a say in where you want to live meaning that the judge will take your opinion into consideration. In my case, my mom and stepdad used to do drugs but they are sober m=now but my dad used it against my mom so I could live with him and I said "I want to live with siblings" and the court took it as "I want to live with my brother" but I really meant my little brother and sister who live with my mom and stepdad. So basically, you have a voice but sometimes they're assholes and don't listen. Sometimes we kids know what's right for us.

In some states at the age of 12 you can choose witch parent you want to live with. The final answer is up to the judge. Good luck.

Girl talk to ur mom n dad about it. A daughter needs her mother. He might get your point of you on certain aspects of life. Like he will need to talk to you about sex, condoms, periods, HIV, all those stuff. You might feel uncomfortable n so might he. It's tricky. U might never know he might do the job well. It's wherever you feel more confortable.
