If me and my boyfriend are both making at least minimum wage can we afford a one bedroom apartment?

If me and my boyfriend are both making at least minimum wage can we afford a one bedroom apartment? He may make a bit more than that, but i'll only be making minimum wage for a while. can we afford to get a one bedroom apartment on two minimum wage incomes?

It really depends on what min wage is where you live and what apartments go for in your area,. Check your local newspaper or do a search online for "apartments for rent (your town)" and see what they are running. Keep in mind you will have other costs besides rent. Electric will likely run you around $100 mo, if it has gas heating/water heater/stove that is another bill that will run between $50-$100 mo depending on season and how many appliances use it. Check to see if the building includes trash in the rent.. some do and some don't. Also water will run you around $30 mo or more dep on rates. Now you have to factor in food, gas, clothing phones, internet/cable etc. The average grocery bill is around $400 mo assuming you eat very cheaply. Your total rent should never be more than half your total monthly income (after taxes)

Oh and keep in mind you guys will likely need to stay at home the first few months you get jobs because you are going to have to save up. Most places require at least First and Last month's rent and often a deposit as well,. So out of pocket expenses the first month just to rent the apt will be double or more the rent. So if the apt is $500mo you are going to need at *least* $1,000 to move in and probably a cleaning deposit as well which varies but usually anywhere from half the rent to another full months worth of rent so figure needing at least $1,500 on a $500 apt just to rent the place.

if there is no deposit or it's less than the cost of a months rent that money will also come in handy as extra you can spend on things you will need. (another huge cost to consider. if you don't already have things like furniture, silverware, dishes, towels, cups/glasses, kitchen utensils, pots and pans etc.

Depends not the price , plus utilities , and you still gotta pay hydro and electricity bills , phone bill , food , furniture, clothes so if you think you can pay for all that , then try , move j to something small tho , nothing fancy till you get a big job

Luckily for us we dont always buy new clothes and we are big money savers and DIY-ers. We will have to do our research and check out what places include what, thank you. :)

It's up to you to find this out. It depends where you live and how you live. Living this way, on minimum wage with a boyfriend, not husband, is not the best idea ever in universe, though.

I have been in a serious relationship with him for 2 years. We will get married when we are ready. All we want is to be together so even if we are on minimum wage for now why would we just stay home when its possible to be together and slowly make our situation better and better.

Please add the rent plus utilities, plus food and laundry and car gas and haircuts and entertainment costs. It's easier to stay home and date, save your money and or go to technical school for a better paying job.

Lol i dont need haircuts and entertainment, and im not in to dating, i have been in a serious relationship for 2 years. School isn't for me it would just be waisting money in my case, my boyfriends only on minimum wage for now he's graduating college.
