Is this homework? I'm of the opinion that homework is something you do for yourself. You DON'T ask others to do it for you, unless you're willing to turn your paperwork in with credit given to each and every person who MIGHT help you. If you're having trouble, get extra help from your teacher, not us, Nancy. Some people (me included) would call what you're doing cheating.......

jadesdama you really have time to waste, some people who answer this type of questions helps the person in trouble to memorize the mechanism, I bet you have no clue what's formula is, and if she cheats why do you care?

here the development and correct answer
4x^2 + kx + 1
As 4x^2 = (2x)^2 and 1 = 1^2, we want this to factor into (2x + 1)^2.
(2x + 1)^2 = 4x^2 + 4x + 1.
So k = 4.
