Is "Would you be able to send me ____." a very polite way to ask/request?

Report as

More information about what you are asking for would be helpful. Based on your limited information, you could say, "I am working on a project for my homework, it would be very helpful if you could send me ______. Thank you so much for your time."

Hi koichan! Thank you for your answer :)
My friend said to me
"Would you be able to share a photo of yourself with me?"
To my friends, I woud say "CAN YOU send me a picture of _____?"
Report as
"can" is asking if they have the ability to do something, I don't think that's what you mean. The "would you be able" is not grammatically correct; you want a present tense question: "I would really appreciate it if you would send me a picture." Or say, less formal, "How about sending me your picture?" or, "I would love to see a picture of you, do you have one you'd be willing to share with me?"

How helpful !!
Thank you thank you :)

My pleasure.

Right, Koichan. Then again, saying "Would" is a psychological way of distancing reality from your request so as to not sound demanding.
Report as
There surely are many ways of asking this question, you are correct about that!
Report as
Lol yes, as mostly pointed out by you, Koichan.

"Would you be able to send me several large pieces of sod - a pony just galloped through my yard and there is a sod shortage in the area I live ." - Good.

"Would you be able to send me a free iPhone- I like that tech but haven't got a dime to pay for it ." - Bad.

No. Not a very polite way. Why not just write: Please send me...
