I've never shot a gun before. what is a good first time gun to use?

I'm scared of the kick on alot of guns. I've never tried it, but I've seen alot of videos where it kicks back and the person loses control of their gun. I don't want to hurt anyone until I need to.

Any video showing somebody losing control of a firearm due to "kickback" ... is showing somebody who never received training on firing a gun, or somebody who is messing around and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a gun.

Go to your local shooting store or gun range ... and ask if there is anyone who can train you on proper firearm handling. I guarantee there are a few "old timers" who would be pleased to help a new shooter learn proper techniques.

As to a first time gun ... many people train on a .22 ... the ammo is cheap and there is little recoil.

Good answer! About the kickback; there's old rifles with scopes and I've seen kids with busted eyebrows and others with busted cheeks..

My cousin did that once ... ONCE

It's the result of not holding the rifle (or shotgun) properly.

Don't worry about the knock back, I've shot 12 gauge slugs and it wasn't even that much. Actually it's a lot of fun, you just got to be really careful. Definitely wear earplugs though. You will go deaf you don't. It's loud with them in too though but at least you won't go deaf.

12 gauge pump action. It was custom made for one of my dads friends. It was chrome. I shot that, a GSD-something, I dunno, a different older shot gun, a pistol. It's been like two or three years. This was when I was twelve too.

.22 caliber is a very easy one to start with. Very, very little kick at all, about as forceful as simply catching a baseball. If you're comfortable you could then move up to a 9mm and maybe a .45. As long as you have a good supervisor at the range with you, just follow their instructions, maintain a decent posture and good grip, and you'll be fine. Don't let anyone talk you into a big caliber that you're not comfortable with and don't go with anyone who's just fooling around.

Kick is dependent on the gun as much as on the ammo itself. There are three 9mm in my house, I've shot every one of them and each feels different. If the person you're with offers you to shoot a gun, and you're not comfortable, ask to watch them put a clip through it first.

.22 is a good starter. NEVER shoot alone, especially when you clearly don't know how. Take shooting lessons, get protective eye gear, ear plugs or head phones, and always remember to keep the safety on ALWAYS and always point it away from people.

The first time you use a gun, it would be best to practice with a BB gun. The reason being is that it's not illegal, it doesn't make too big of a noise (unless if you hit something really hard) and you can practice every day and the ammo is cheap. You can get a 2400 case of pellets for $10 at Wal-Mart. Once you get used to that, then you can move onto something like a 4 10 but make sure you're with someone who has used guns before.

9mm, it don't recoil much. I'd say a 22 like the rest but 9mm annoying would be easier to find than 22 ammo, which is right near impossible. Wear hearing protection.

.22's are fun, accurate and have no recoil. 9mm's are also nice

Anybody who gets smacked in the face by a pistol has no clue what they are doing, and they are also most likely shooting something too big for them. (eg. the girl in the brown bikini shooting a desert eagle. PITIFUL.) Hold the gun with confidence. Tight, but not a death grip. Keep your wrist rigid, and your dominant arm in a straight but comfortable position. Squeeze the trigger and send the pain, holding your form the whole time. Just don't wig out. The more you panic, the more you mess up, and then you panic even more. They're not that scary. Talk to a dealer to get hooked up with the right size gun for you.
