Why did people believe the world would have ended in 2012...does anyone read the Bible?

Report as

People are gullible, which is coincidentally why they believe the Bible has anything to do with modern world.

Specifically says in Bible that anyone who calls himself Christ, or says that they know when Christ is coming back...DO NOT FOLLOW THEM. Luke chapter 21.It says this in other places also. Do not be deceived, anyone who says they know is a liar.

Other people believed that the world would have ended on 2000 when the computers supposed to turn to 0, and all the civilizations would turn to havoc. Now they have a new prediction that by 2024 the world would end. I know the bible says that no one will know the time, but obviously bible and science have never seen eye to eye.

That isn't quite what the Y2K fear was. It wasn't about the world ending.

00 was used as an "end program" code on computers ... and if it wasn't updated by 2000 ... all computer software using that code would cease running. If that happened, it *would* have caused global havoc.

Fortunately, computer programmers realized that possibility in the early 1990's ... and started updating software then. But it made big headlines to run stories not mentioning THAT.

The mayan calendar was incorrectly interpreted and people believed it meant the world would end that day. That has nothing do to with the bible, and not everyone believes in the bible

exactly.. but everyone should believe in the Bible..it's the fruit of Life

Its fable and hearsay. Not everyone accepts superstitious tales as truth.

It has nothing to do with the Bible. And if you read the Bible, it says the end is near. It's never said exactly how near or when the end is. So even if they did read the Bible, they could've used that to justify their beliefs.

On the other hand, I don't think ANYBODY believed the world would end in 2012.

That's okay. It's your money.

That's not true. There was one religious group passing around fliers and even put up an ad on a billboard notifying everyone that the world would end March 2012. Made me laugh whenever I saw the billboard.

Different religions say different things.

Scientific predictions and religious beliefs cause these irrational theories.

Two questions! Or are you saying one contradicts the other?
1. Anyone who thinks the Mayan calendar controls the future got snookered. Just like we did with Obamacare, too many believed promises from believable sources.
2. Many people read it. More just own one. And a few understand it. It's a gradation; I eat broccoli because it's good for me, not because I enjoy it. But I eat oatmeal because it's good for me, and I enjoy it, so regarding the Bible, find the parts you enjoy and enjoy! But don't neglect broccoli.

Nope, don't neglect the broccoli. By the way, what nutrients are found in broccoli and what's it good for?
Report as
Its a cruciform vegetable that's good for antioxidant, I guess. Bleeh

to the Geek guy...you must be stupid if you believe Science is more real than the Bible..all I can say is you better change your mind on that before you end up in Hell
Report as
"Stupid" is believing in a Bronze Age book of mythology over observable, testable facts.

And your "hell" is no more real than the rest of your mythology.

the end of the world will happen AFTER the 1000 year period reign of christ and christians. This is basically after the judgement day. since the 1000 year is not yet coming and since the Lord Jesus Christ is not yet showing up and since the great tribulation is not yet happening, those predictions and speculations made by ignorants are not going to happen.

before the end of the world, THERE ARE physical signs that will go to happen. firstly is the great tribulation, secondly is the coming of the Lord Jesus and third is the 1000 year period reign of Christ and lastly is the judgement day.

Just be prepared because these things are past approching and most prophesies are now happening.

in a time where in people are relax and busy doing earthly things, is the coming of the great tribulation and the coming of the lord.

just like what happen in the time of noah, imagine, only 8 souls were saved because most of them WERE ATHEISTS, they do not believe that there is a great flood and they do not believe in the preaching of Noah.

faith saved Noah and his family.

it is better to bring umbrella when the clouds are grey and dark so that when the rain comes you are safe.

people in the time of Noah were not able to get in the ark because they DO NOT BELIEVE THAT great flood is true, the same with in our time, what do you think these unbelievers are going to do ifin the time of the lord?
Report as
what do you think these unbelievers are going to do in the time of the lord?
Report as
I would be careful on predicting the coming of are lord Jesus Christ.

The bible says no one will know what Time.
Report as
you do not need to predict just study the sign.

the decision is in God's power,

let us read,,

Acts 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power

it says here in the verse that, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

If anyone knew ANYTHING about the Mayan calendar, they would have known it was more like a clock and so resetting isn't that big a deal.

If they have read the Bible it says; " But of that day and hour no one knows; not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only." ( Matthew 24:36) Revised Standard Version People listen to philosophy's
of others and follow bad advise.

People are gullible, and were convinced by media trying to sell an interesting story that the Mayan religion predicted the world would end. It wasn't true.

Of course, reading the bible results in more "end of the world" silliness than any other source. Christians have been hysterically claiming the "end times" were at hand for two thousand years.

I do. The bible says, no man will know the day or time. God will come like a thief in the night. And they only believed that because the myan calendar ended that day.
