Too many people are under the impression that the Big Bang theory accounts for the formation of Earth and, by extension, planets. This is simply not true. In fact, we do not have a substantiated theory explaining planetary formation. The most widely accepted explanation can be found under the Nebular hypothesis, which states that the planets in our solar system formed from the left-over debris present in the protoplanetary disk through the process of accretion.
