Does novice and neophyte mean exactly the same thing? THX for the help.

not really.. novice is someone who is very new at something ... a neophyte is someone who has maybe been doing or been a part of something for a while and they are more adept but they haven't gone far enough, learned enough etc to be considered at a higher level. When you talk about say religions, neophytes can actually teach and mentor novices to a certain degree (usually with oversight of someone at a higher rank)
