Here is a story for you, that might help respond to your question... Because I recently read the first biography of Edgar Cayce (1877-1945), who is also known as The Sleeping Prophet, and The Father of Holistic Medicine.
That biography, THERE IS A RIVER, was written by Thomas Sugrue...and he relates how Edgar Cayce had imaginary friends as a young boy. Young Edgar was not the only person who could see them, however...occasionally his mother would see them, and say to him; "There your friends are, outside, waiting for you to come and play!"
