Can an employer pay for an employee's medicare supplement policy

I had a client who got penalized from the IRS for paying for an active employee's Medicare supplement premiums. I always heard that an employer can not pay the Medicare supplement or part D premiums if the employee is still working. They can only pay the premiums if it is a retirement benefit and it is offered to all employee's. Help I need a correct answer. thx

Not as a group... But you could possibly have an agreement for them to reimburse you back for the cost of the monthly premium. Med Supp policies are sold as individual policies.

You're right, an employer cannot pay an active employee's medicare supplement. You can call the Coordination of Benefits (COB) at 1-800-999-1118 for the official answer to this matter.
