Your checking account number is on your checks, but not on your lost debit or credit card. Banks do not provide access to the account number without proper identification, almost always in person at a bank branch. This means you don't need a new account number - the lost or stolen card is immediately deactivated while the replacement card - with a new number, expiration date, and security number - will be associated to your account number once you "activate" the card. You should check with your bank, in any case, regarding security.
