Hi caluvox~ It's good to see you again. It's been a while. Well, a while since today and yesterday a touch. I agree. You are on a roll! Go with it. I like it! :)

interesting comment caluvox "mental abnormalities" Don't you think we all have this condition? Whose going to say resolutely that they don't.
Report as
You too MnM! :)

Cjuepa, I will say I don't. Abnormal means just that, not normal. We all have various idiosyncrasies to be sure, but when taken to extremes they become abnormalities. Idiosyncrasies won't effect a good conscious, abnormalities will. For that matter, not having a good conscious is an abnormality.

Of course, but don't expect to be perfect. We all stuff up now and then -- sometimes deliberately. It's part of being human.

Hi Dodgy~ :) I never believed a person could be born without a conscience. A person who really knew the consequences of their actions, but didn't care about repercussions. Unfortunately, I did meet a person like this a few years back. It was devastating. This was a person who really did come from a place I will never know. Thankfully, I don't have to be around him any longer.
Keeping a clear conscience is quite simple. Listen to yourself and do what feels right. I found that doesn't work for everybody. :s. Sometimes it is whom you choose to learn from and what you choose to learn that makes a difference. Happy thoughts to you! I'm going to carve pumpkins and make pumpkin pie! See you soon!!

I agree, Merlin. Not everybody has a conscience, yet the question was, "Can we maintain one?" and, if we want to, I think we can.

Even so, I've met a few businessmen whose consciences must be Teflon-coated. I never wanted to be like that.
Report as
I agree on both accounts. :)
Report as
Psychopaths for example. Have you met my neighbour? A biker, He makes being on here a breeze. Tolerance crikey you are not kidding lol.
Report as
That said sometimes i'll talk to him and he'll come out with an opinion so far out there its profound. Others i have to wear my "poker face" which is a grin whilst thinking, quick kathy hurry up indoors.
Report as
I know what you mean. For 30 years I had a neighbour who had been in the Hitler Youth before joining the Luftwaffe. He still thought the Jews were responsible for WW2 and that Hitler was a great benefactor. He looked like a very large version of Sgt. Schulz.
Report as
Lol!!! Id say you win, but im sure my neighbour will do something tomorrow thats really freaky lol! (thats hysterical to hear but not to great to live with).
Report as
My neighbour got kicked out the armed services because he was deemed a threat at peace time. He has a bad leg from a motorbike accident(well not that bad depends on what he is getting up to nudge nudge wink wink say no more. He told me he went to the doctors about his pain and the doctor asked him to describe it..so..he punched him in the face and said "that painful"

Interesting thread here...Dozy I am guessing this neighbor must have been in Australia? Was Australia something of a refuge for those post-Third Reich, I wonder...?
Report as
Hi virginia how are your neighbours
Report as
You know cos "Everybody needs good neighbours", dont they Dodgy ;-)

We opened up to migrants from all over the place, Virginia. Until the 1960s they were mostly from Europe but since then we've taken a great number of Asian migrants as well.

But, no, I don't think we were a haven for war criminals (though we've had a few) like Argentina and Brazil, but we did get a lot of people who weren't all that happy with the outcome of the war.

Of course the focus changed when the USSR was trying to extend its European territories and, after 1956, we also took in a great number of Hungarians. I got to know many of them when I joined a Hungarian chess club in Sydney. For the most part they were very old world, and could still remember the meaning of "gentleman".

Hello Kathy,

My neighbors are now all quite wonderful...at age 69, I am in a beautiful round building that was constructed for the older folks of Iowa...who tend to be very loving, such tenderhearts.

So the greatest drama here is often something like tonight; my dear friend Louise, who is going to assisted living on Monday, was nearly in tears because she lost her keys and thought there was a little lost boy in her apartment...so we called Tom, my neighbor who is the night duty person.

Tom checked her apt. and reassured her there is no little lost boy there, and found her keys for her, in her door.
So my heart is with you for the dysfunctional neighbor...

Dozy it is so wonderful to learn first-hand about Australia...

Kathy, it's certainly helped me to appreciate the very good neighbours we have now. He used to watch Hogan's Heroes because he looked so much like Schulz. He never realised that the guy was only a caricature. (He'd have been horrified to learn that the actor who played the role was Jewish and had initially refused it until he realised that he could lampoon the Nazi's by playing a know-nothing, see-nothing incompetent.

Virginia, I may give a rather jaundiced picture. I only tell it as I see it, looking up from underneath. Somebody on the top of the pile might have a different point of view.
Report as
I will take your "underneath" perspective any day instead of the top-of-the-pile view.

My attitude is often better the devil you know. Ive had worst, i think as of yet.....i moved because at my last place was in flats (apartments) and the chap below me was using it for growing weed. He threatened to do me it. I kept quiet for two years petrified made me ill. When i left pulled my carpet up and it was soaked i did end up having the police involved because of death threats, crikey i loved my flat when i moved in, but we got a new landlord and i always suspected she knew. Police told me my instincts were right she was. Honestly hell really is other people sometimes.

I now live in a small house which is very much an older community, but some of the things that go on here would make your toes curl. Honestly here there worse than the youths lol! Still never dull.

Kathy I just looked at your profile...you are in UK?
I guess no place is immune now...so difficult, because one really needs peace at home, a place of refuge...
Report as
Yes i live between london and the country. Use to be lovely but there goes the neighbour type of thing, thinking of moving further towards the countryside. I grew up horseriding, hard work but had to work for a ride rode from age four, worked from age eleven for my sister and I's pony, was fantastic life. Miss it.

I will think of you, may your search for a fine home proceed with success and with heart.

Good night dear heart.

Good night, Ladies. And don't worry about the spiders in Oz, Kathy. The snakes have killed off most of them. :D
Report as
Yes, but...how about those dreaded willy-willys?
Report as
I told Yosey earlier that I'd seen a dead kangaroo in my street, about 500 metres from home. It's unusual for them to be killed here -- they usually stay well within the national park -- but the fires have driven them east of their normal territory.
Report as
Lol Dodgey! Yeah forgot about the snakes.
Report as
Sorry, Virginia, I managed to skip over that. Willy-willies aren't a problem if you carry a nulla-nulla.
Report as
Dozy, just to see if I could cultivate some independence here, I Googled the nulla-nulla...is it Australian Aboriginal war club?
Report as
That's the one. It's a kind of antipodean shillelagh.
Report as
Antipodean shillelagh...love it...

And I am going to Wal-Mart to see about buying my nulla-nulla.
Report as
I knew a guy who owned a bicycle shop in a rather dangerous area of Sydney. He kept a nulla nulla under his counter. He pulled it out to show me one day and I thought it would be a brave man who tackled him while he was holding it. He looked frearsome.

YES, because God gives us principles throughout the scriptures. Many non-Christians benefit themselves as stated when they apply the principles:

Romans 2: 14?For whenever people of the nations that do not have law do by nature the things of the law, these people, although not having law, are a law to themselves. 15?They are the very ones who demonstrate the matter of the law to be written in their hearts, while their conscience is bearing witness with them and, between their own thoughts, they are being accused or even excused"

IT IS wise to be careful not to lose ones reasonable & sensitive conscience as was & is warned:

(1 Timothy 4:1-3) 4?However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons, 2?by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in their conscience as with a branding iron; 3?forbidding to marry, commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be partaken of with thanksgiving by those who have faith and accurately know the truth.

Yes, if you have normal emotional reactions that havent been affected by bad experiences, and mentally healthy. But lifes a lesson so i have to be careful because im as guilty of human fallibility as the next, although that can produce entertainment in of itself, its the main amusement between my friends and i
