The ad tells the colonists they are making a noble stand against the British who are trying to enslave them. He says he understands their feelings and their desire to fight for political and religious freedom. He then asks for the privilege of earning money to buy his freedom to return to Africa, his homeland. He wrote, "We ask you for relief, which as a man, we have a right to do.
