Pathological liar is one term; other names for this condition are pseudologia fantastica, mythomania, and compulsive lying.
This is one condition I originally learned about on Ask.com, and learned some understanding and compassion for it, also. Average age on onset is around sixteen years, affects equal numbers of men and women, with central nervous system abnormality in 40% of cases. There is some speculation the brain somehow just gets 'wired' differently in this condition.
I recall one man on Ask describing this condition in his wife; difficult, but he loved her and had just learned to adapt and adjust to her constant fabrications.
