Is it free to get a gym pass to the ymca and how old do you have to be if it's free?

Where I live a student membership is 12 dollars a month with a 50 dollar start up fee; in some cases the fee and monthly payment may be waived if the family can prove economic hardship. My son had a student membership from 6th grade through his senior year in high school- the 12 dollars a month was more than worth the value for him to be off the street and engaged in wholesome activities such as basketball, weight lifting and swimming.

It can be free for anyone, they might have to volunteer a little time working around the place if they are old enough to work, but it is usually only a couple hours a week. They have scholarships too though and I believe those do not require any kind of volunteering in trade.
