Why would you do such a thing??? That is horrible!! That is taking away their only way of communicating and talking. Barking and growling is how they warn off other dogs or people who could do them harm. It's also how they get your attention to something going on that you may not even realize. There are other ways of dealing with excessive barking. Talk to your vet or a dog behaviorist.
No, and I would never consider it. Dogs bark for a reason. Removing a voice box for your lack of ability to fix the real problem is selfish. If your dog is constantly barking something is bothering it. Your dog could have hypothyroidism and is showing signs of anxiety from that. Your dog may not be getting enough exercise and is reacting to pent up energy. Find the reason for the barking and fix it. First get a complete physical from you vet including a thyroid panel. If that comes back clear than hire a behaviorist that uses positive reinforcement to help you train your dog.
