How can I naturally cure my ADD?

I've had a lot going on the past 5 years of my life and I think my ADD has a lot to do with it. I have several goals set in life and my ADD seems to be a major road block. I need to be 100% satisfied for something to work and I know it's impossible to have everything go that way and turn out the way you want it to be. it also gives me depression and anxiety. sometimes when I'm really depressed and anxious I just sit in my living room with no tv or lights on. I just sit and think of how bad things are how bad things used to be and all those goals I have. I've just had enough of it I'm going to be 16 and my parents don't seem to want me to have medication for it but its controlling my life.

Dude I don't think that's the ADD, I've had it for ten years it doesn't make me anxious. I'd try and stay away from pills too. Dude you gotta not have plans, people get so wrapped up in what they want to do or be, but the thing is you gotta focus on WHO you will be, not WHAT. If someone is into medical stuff at their core then they will be that. You gotta change and better yourself to WHO you want to be, the what will come with. Doesn't mean don't have goal or ideas where you want to go, but is to not be married to the plan. idea, or concept.

That's not a "natural" way to "cure" anything.
Report as
it is actually, it helps, i used to be wild as hell, now i'm calm :p

Swag if its a medical pill then its probably not natural. I havent hears of it either.
Report as
you should see my past self then but you guys don't have to believe me, just trying to get cellceus12 a good idea cause the stuff works...
Report as
let me explain it the easiest way possible: concerta helps ADD, don't gets any easier to explain then that your just pissed a 14 year old is right and your wrong :P
Report as
Concerta is a well respected prescription medication that helps people with ADD/ADHD. It's non-addictive. People with ADD have brains that work differently, and for some of them medication is the way for them to meet their potential.
Report as
are you saying it works emaslp?

I now I have ADD myself and I am on aderal and my doctor whent over all the possible options I for medicating and a pill called concerta never came up.

Mrswag, I have used Focalin which is similar to Ritalin. I'm off it for now due to high blood pressure (not caused by focalin, I'm 60, with family history for cardiac issues). It was very helpful to me, and also for my daughter. When I took it, it helped my brain to stay still. I had some control over what I wanted to think about - my work, or other current activity. I'm a special educator, and I know Concerta is used a lot for ADD, but I don't have personal experience with that one.
Report as
thank u people think concerta isn't real. LOOK IT UP PEOPLE
Report as
Swag I did look it up so if you are confused and you have ADHD the. yes concerta is right for you but out of the five sites including the one you gave it says nothing about being used for ADD.
Report as
It's been around for a while. Why would they think it's not real, just because they've never heard of it? Now that doesn't make any sense, does it?
Report as
csampson go to this site http://www.drugs.com/concerta.html you will find this on the site where it says what is concerta
Concerta is used to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Emaslp have you done your research on concerta I am saying it is used for ADHD not ADD I hate seeing young kids get the wrong meds if they really need it.

did u go to the website told u to go to?
Report as
Uhm swag the site you used is a .html its like a wiki page which is one of the most incorrect type of sites to find legit facts.
Report as
this is what the site said:
Concerta (methylphenidate) is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control.

Concerta is used to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). damn bro what else do i have to show u
Report as
that doesn't sound like a 15 year old wrote that, does it?
Report as
it sounds like a doctor did
Report as
Hey I have a better plave that is factual. Google search Concerta then go to the result that is a pdf report of Concerta written by the FDA tada you go there and it proves my point. Even the FDA has labeled it as only ADHD medication and has no reference to ADD. And the site you gave is a wikipage type site so anybody can put stuff on there.
Report as
It helps ADD stupid :)
Report as
Swag did you go to the FDA pdf report they did on Concerta. The more reliable factual site and organization has said that it is not an ADD medication. I am telling you do the search and go where I am telling you. I am 19 and I have done multiple projects on ADD because I have it and it interests me. So I will tell you a .html wiki site is not fully factual so please look up the FDA report so you can be set straight.
Report as
Here ya go Swag some legit info. http://www.m.webmd.com/mobile-drugs/drug?drugname=Concerta%20Oral#Uses, http://www.healthcentral.com/druglibrary/408/concerta.html, What Is CONCERTA ? ?
CONCERTA ? is a central nervous system stimulant prescription medicine. It is used for the treatment of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). CONCERTA ? may help increase attention and decrease impulsiveness and hyperactivity in patients with ADHD. the first two are sites you should go to. And the third part is part of the FDA pdf report on Concerta.
Report as
Swag I am waiting for an answer after you have looked at my sites and even look at the FDA pdf. If you are taking concerta because this wiki website says it is used to treat ADD then you need to consult your doctor. Or you need to ask your doctor if you have ADD or ADHD so you can get that medical confusion out of your mind. I also want to ask how old are you and how long have you been diagnosed with your condition.
Report as
it cures ADD thats all i'm gonna say. Period

The label ADHD is often used to refer to both non-hyperactive attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, and a combination of the two. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder - this term captures all components. Generally there are not separate medications for one or the other. The doctor prescribing Concerta, or any medication, would know this. Concerta is a form if Ritalin, which is similar to Focalin. This is the one I have used. I've never been hyperactive. I looked at several websites, and they all seem to use just the term ADHD, and not ADD. I'm assuming ADHD is the "correct" medical term, but many people use ADD to differentiate between the different forms.
Report as
They are 2 different disorders. If you believe they are the same you are blind. I am sorry but when the FDA labels it as only ADHD medication I believe that. And Swag it doesnt cure it. It just stops some symptoms thats it. And if a doctor classifies ADHD and ADD as the same disorder then that doctor needs to do research.

ADHD is an "umbrella" term. It stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Sometimes it's written with "and" or a dash in between Deficit and Hyperactivity. There are three types of ADHD. ADD is one of the three types of ADHD. Sometimes ADD is called ADHD, inattentive type. The other two types are hyperactivity and combined type. ADD and ADHD are not two types of disorders; ADD is a type of ADHD. The medical community stopped using ADD as a separate official classification over ten years ago. Lay people still use the term ADD to refer to the inattentive form, so some doctors may use that term also because they think it's simpler. Most of the medication used now for ADHD can be used for any of the three types. I agree that wiki websites are not reliable. The other ones mentioned above are better, but they can be a little confusing. They tend to use the latest medical terms, eg: ADHD to refer to all types, including ADD.
Report as
So, when you read in one of the reliable websites that a medication is used for ADHD, that means it is also used for the inattentive type, which we have been referring to as ADD. Some medications are so effective for some people, that it seems like a cure. Some people outgrow it, which makes it seem even more like a cure. The medication relieves the symptoms but does not cure the ADHD. I'm confident that my information is correct, simply because of my professional background, in addition to my personal experience ( me with inattentive type and my daughter with combined type). I also reviewed my sources to make sure I had all the details correct.

There is no cure. For ADD or ADHD the only way to cure it is to either grow out of it due to your brain maturing or you have a procedure that changes your brain. I know I have done exstenseve research on this topic. I am a science major and working on my doctrate and I had to write a thesis over this topic.
Report as
Oh and swag since your young and probably dont know what a thesis paper is I will tell you. A Thesis Paper is about 30-50+ pages on a topic of the students choice. For 99.99% of the paper is facts gathered from factual legit websites and books. The student has to a bibliography that in itself is about 5-10 pages long depending on how many references they are using. Then the paper gets turned in to a board of proffesors, they look it over and mark up everything that needs to be fixed. They then give the paper back you have to make corrections. That procces can take anywhere from 3-5 weeks depending on your capability to make the changes the proffesors want and how long it takes the proffesors to edit your paper and return it to you. So yeah I know what I am talking about when it comes to this topic.

He may feel like the Concerta is a cure. I agree it can not be cured. Some people grow out of it, which is not the same as a cure (you know). His medication might work so well, that it feels like a cure. I guess what he's experiencing is that Concerta is a very effective treatment for his ADD (lay person's term) or ADHD , Inattentive type (medical term). As you continue your research you will probably learn even more about the medications that are used for both hyperactivity and focusing problems. Ritalin us one that I have used for ADD, but I later switched to focalin which is similar.

Swag, I know you're older then 10. Did you say you're in high school? I'm glad that you found something so helpful for your ADD or ADHD - I've lost track of which one at this point. With luck you will grow out of it and not have to continue with medication your whole life. Me, at age 60, I still have to deal with it. But, I went to college, got my Masters degree and am successful professionally. It can work out either way, cure or no cure.

Yes but your friend might be taking pills or doing similar to what I do when I dont take my pills. If I am going somewhere and I didnt take my aderal I will have my gameboy or some other game and if I start to loose focus I play a game for a little then I can get back to work. I got fired from a job I didnt really like by doing that.

It's not simple. I'm 60, and I have ADD. Without medication I have a lot of difficulty completing the paperwork for my job. I have a masters degree and I work hard. It's not simple. I'm very motivated to do well at my job because I'm single and I have a mortgage. It's all on me. It's not simple.

I have ADD and there is no natural way to cure it. Depending on your age you may still grow out of it if your still young. Once you get around 16 or 17 your doctor should test you again and if you are a rare case like me and end up having what they deem Adult ADD then no you cant cure it. Any ways your doctor can prescribe you aderal.

It sounds like you are overly fixated on goals. At 16, you should have a couple of goals for the next 5 yrs: graduating with good grades and going to college. Some minor goals could be getting a part time job and having your own car. You don't have to know your college major right away. So don't fret on that. Your parents may know you well enough that they don't see this as ADD. Just chill for a while--stop and smell the roses.

If your parents are against medication, therapy might be helpful. You could learn strategies and techniques to help you cope. If your therapist feels medication could be beneficial, he/she can help you talk to your parents and make a referral to a psychiatrist for prescriptions.

I see "natural" remedies advertised sometimes. I wouldn't trust any of them. I can never find any good information about any of them. As chenkle (sp?) said diet and exercise can help. Exercise helps get that all important oxygen in your brain. Getting plenty of sleep is critical.
