If your considered to be a squatter in your parents apartment but your not under a lease do you have a right to not pay rent?

Report as

Anytime you are living in your parent's home after you become an adult (18) is with their permission. Squatter's have no rights, they are there illegally (trespassing) and are not renters or owners to the property. That being said, as a responsible Adult, you should be required to abide by your Parent's rules which can include cleaning, working, and Paying Rent.

You never have a right not to pay rent. If your living in someone elses property you pay rent. Thats the lawful, right and decent thing to do.

If your parents also occupy the apartment then, no - you are not a squatter if you don't help out with rent. You're only a parasite.

If you are over 18, by all means you should have a job and contribute some money to your parents. Life is no free ride.

If you live in your parents apartment and are grown and have a job, you should definitely help pay the rent

Even parents have bills to pay. There are extra costs with you there. The only decent thing to do is to help out. You don't want to have them think you are a mooch.

As a general rule, you want to pay rent. Paying rent gives you more rights than someone who does not. If you're squatting, you can be seen as trespassing and if you're a guest, the host can revoke your invitation to stay there.
