is it okay to fast once a week?

I'm a 16 year old female and I'm wondering if it's okay to "fast" once a week like eat 6 small meals a day for 6 days and then the 7th day of the week I "fast" which means I guess not eat all day, only drink water? is that okay/ healthy?

You need to talk to your doctor before doing something like this. If for some reason you have low blood sugar fasting can be disastrous.

fasting means no drinking no eating and yes i think its ok fastingbis always good for ur body

totally fine. If it's a wight loss thing tho you might want to think a little more about the thoughts that make you want to not eat one day because you're still really young. (actually we're the same age) and I'm a model who sees too many girls make bad decisions around this kind of thing. Be safe. Xx

noooo i was worried when i saw this question that it was something along these lines. I'm sorry you're feeling so down but remember, a model's body is no more beautiful then your own. It's not something worth potentially harming yourself for because being "thin" isn't anything relevant to who you are as a person or a measure on how much other people love you. it's just a random adjective. forget it and love yourself. You're beautiful, own it.

Definitely speak with a physician first. I don't believe that it is safe to deprive your body of water at the least for an extended period of time as you need to constantly replace water as your body loses it. Think of a flower - without water it will wilt. Also consider why you want to do this? It is not effective as a weight loss method, in fact it DOES NOT benefit your body at all. I do not know of a religion that fasts weekly. It may not be healthy for you emotionally either - this shows signs of something underlying your desire to control something in your life and you could develop an eating disorder. If you want to "cleanse" your body, I would suggest perhaps not eating for no longer than 24 hours, but consume a LARGE amount of water during this time - I would drink at least 2 gallons. (or some people do green tea or similar).

people get eating disorders this way? I feel that I'm "fat" so I thought about fasting one day of the week

Noooo!! Trust me, I actually was diagnosed with aneorexia when I was 14 not because I thought I was fat, but because I had no control in my life so I turned to not eating. You see pictures of the bloated bellies of the starving children? They do not eat, yet they have "fat" bellies because your body eventually consumes MUSCLE to fuel itself. I don't know what type of dieting plan would work for you, or even if you NEED to lose weight. I will suggest exercising - cardio where you increase your heart rate to 120 max and sweat - this is good for EVERYONE. Weight lifting builds bulk and it sounds like you are trying to avoid that. Yoga and Pilates are great for building lean muscle and a solid "core". Remember, even if you have a significant layer of fat- it is just hiding the muscle, and if you are carrying that extra weight then those muscles are developed.

if you can access a nutritionist - DO it. I have a feeling that you only precieve yourself as fat but are probably healthy... this may ve emotional. But, a nutritionist can help you eat healthier and recommend a diet. don't try the quick fix diet pills - often they cause more harm. Eating smaller, healthier meals several times a day is better than 2 large meals (or 3 if you do a big breakfast). I believe that unless you are morbidly obese that you can simply make a few lifestyle changes and lose weight on your own. avoid empty calories, drinking, exercise 3 hours a week, eat more vegetables and the weight will come off. well I'm not fat, but I'm tired of seeing other girls thinner then me and they look so pretty and I wanna be thin like them too. and this time I'll do it the healthy way cuz last time I "diet" I stopped eating after my 3rd day of dieting and lost so much weight, but I wasn't anorexic tho
