There are three forms of jihad. The first two are closely related, one is to spread Islam into new countries, the other is to "defend" Islam in nations where it is already dominant, These two are generally done using violence, intimidation, and terrorism. The third form is more subtle, it is "Striving in the way of God" this is the only peaceful version of jihad, a comparison to Christianity would be missionaries, using peaceful methods such as food and medical aid to promote their religion. The term jihad isn't used very much anymore when this form is employed.

Jihad=Holy war! jihad is a duty that may be fulfilled in four ways: by the heart, the tongue, the hand, or the sword. The first way involves struggling against evil desires. The ways of the tongue and hand call for verbal defense and right actions. The jihad of the sword involves waging war against enemies of Islam. Believers contend that those who die in combat become martyrs and are guaranteed a place in paradise.
