How can one fight morning depression?

Report as

Hi Ask 7 :) Well, perfect timing because I have been working on this too. Ask yourself if there is anything going on in your life which isn't the healthiest for you to be dealing with right now. Sometimes just the thought of facing that burden is almost more than we want to wake up to. If so, is there any way you can remove this obstacle from your life? Sometimes you can and sometimes it's impossible...but somehow try to make that obstacle tolerable. Second , are there ANY painful anniversaries coming up? By this I mean a death of a close loved one? This is happening to me and right now tears are coming to my eyes just thinking of it. If this is the case, you will just have to ride it out and try and find someone you can trust ( that's the key right there, "trust") to talk about it until it passes. (for this time, yes, there will be more times I know) Third, holidays are coming up.. a whole bunch of holidays that can bring joy or sorrow. Try to get a journal or something and organize now how you will run the next 3 months of your life. Uncertainties cause depressive thoughts. We will get through this.

My heart aches for you. I'm sending you healing energy and hope that tomorrow will bring some relief to the unspeakable sadness and pain that you must be feeling. You're in my thoughts daily, Sin.

I can feel your pain, Sin, and wish you well getting through it. We all have to cope in our own ways, but knowing that doesn't make it any easier.

I thought of you too Dodgy when I wrote this, my good friend. Also, for everyone else we know going through ANY type of pain that a date and time puts a face on. We will be okay. We all have each other.

But I'm about to go off line for the next 6-8 hours.
Catch you after that.

I like to listen to some quiet and relaxing music. I personally like Christian music because it can be very uplifting. I have battled with depression for many years and have found music to be a good way to quiet the mind. Also reading a good book can be helpful.

Like that old question about the glass being half full or half empty? Morning: You just woke up. Hours of sleep. Nothing bad happened. Blank slate ahead of you for the rest of day. How perfect is that???? The absolute best part of the day: before life kicks in with all its ups and downs and twists and turns. You should utterly enjoy the not-knowingness of what is going to happen the next 24 hours. You want to be gloomy? Be gloomy at the end of the day when things didn';t turn out the way you wanted them to.Lay in bed for a while, stretch, think about how good this feels and then get up and open the blinds/doors/windows (even if it's chilly) and celebrate the quietness/freshness of the unwritten, the unknown of this day.

You need to make sure that you have enough sleep. This will make sure that you wake up feeling fresh. Sleeping late will make you tired in the morning.

I have a stack of chuch songs I sing loud and clear! Also eat fruit and even chocolate as the magnesium in that is a mood elevator and also lettuce has been shown to be important also for depression. I just need to pray when I am feeling lost in the forest, and I talk to Jesus, my rock. Being married help me also because having a loved one to massage you or go out with you helps a whole lot. I have found that volunteering is a good thing I like to do when I can. There are those times in life I understand but as Walt Whitmans poem says "Keep on a going!"

Get a night job. I swear that I'm not being a smartass. I forced myself out of bed every morning for years, and hated it more everyday. I switched shifts to 10pm - 7am. And I'm healthier and happier for it. It may not help, just letting you know whats worded wonders for me.

Take a nice long shower, have a compilation of cheerful, upbeat songs that aren't too full of drums, electric guitar, etc. on an ipod, and go for a walk. Exercise is fantastic for depression.

As motivation, you could try booking a personal trainer, asking a friend to coffee/breakfast each morning, walking with a friend/family member, getting dogs to walk, settings goals to beat each time, going somewhere that you love to be such as a favourite park, etc, and rewarding yourself at the end with shopping, cake, whatever you want.

Good luck :)

One of the best thing you can do is yoga. Going to at least one yoga class or even looking up a flow online (YouTube or whatever) can get you interested to start a new routine. In my opinion yoga is the only medicine you can take for depression, stress relief, menstrual cycle.... ANYTHING! I really hope not only do you try it but everyone who reads this does because after a whole week of commitment, you will always want to do it! I hope this helps you and everyone else <3
