What would cause pain and swelling in my thumb for no apparent reason

i awoke one morning with the pain and swelling several months ago. i have been to several doctors and none have given me an answer to what is causing this.

I presume you have ruled out infection, poor circulation, and dislocation.

Have you looked at allergic reaction? Since it has been longer than a few weeks, it probably isn't an allergic reaction, but stranger things have happened.

thank u LouisJolliet for your comment. i do wear artficial nail so maybe that is causing it. i just took them off less than a week ago and no improvement yet

When you say "artificial nail," do you mean a prosthetic nail to replace a non-existant nail or just a fashionable fake nail covering your real nail?

If it is the prosthetic, it could be infection or allergic reaction. You might even check to see if your real nail is trying to regenerate but is not making it to the surface.
