I suppose it is a way that a person carries him or herself and that includes styles of clothing, makeup and jewelry as well. I'm over 30 so you shouldn't trust me, but my niece who is much younger than me says Goths and "emos" are practically synonymous. I guess they both like to dress in black or dark colors and look "spooky". Such a look is nothing new because even though I'm over 30 and not to be trusted, I have no reason to lie to you, so I'll say that I have seen such types even when I was in high school and to some extent even middle school. The term "Goth" was not used for them back then. Billy Joel didn't use the term "Goth" in his song Still Rock-n-Roll To Me, but I'm sure he would agree that it is indeed STILL "Rock-n-Roll"
