Pretty weird question. but i need an answer please?

This is a pretty weird question but i can not get an answer anywhere else...I'm trying to word it correctly.... I will be 18 next month and i told my mom i am moving out. She said that if i did there was no way for me to go get my license (as in she wouldn't take me). As you have propbably seen from my other question i am going to New Orleans to get married. i will be moving in with his mom until everything gets situated.. Could his mom or him take me to go get my license?

I would think all you need to get your license is your birth certificate, so get that and I'm pretty sure you can take yourself (for the written part). Then if you can borrow or have a car, have a licensed driver take you to take the driving part of the test. If she won't give you your birth certificate, go to your county health department (hopefully you were born in the state you live in) and get a certified copy and keep it for important stuff like the license, passport, etc.

Depends on the state. Mine requires birth certificate, social security card, and two proofs of residency.

yes, that is true in some cases. A social security card can be requested at the social security administration office...which would take a little more time; be sure to check with your local Department of Motor Vehicles on what documentation is needed.

You are now 18. You now make decisions for yourself. They won't always be wise decisions, but they will be yours. Yes, you can get a license on your own, but you do need your birth certificate. You will need it several times in your life, so get an official one.

Yes, at 18 you can go with anyone to get your license, and your learners. In fact at 18 you only need to get to the DMV, don't need a parent to sign or anything. Just call your DMV or look up their webpage, and figure out the documents you need to take.

When you take the driving test you're going to have to borrow a car - keep in mind that the care *must* be up-to-date on inspection and registration, and must function properly, because you'll have to use the turn signals and headlights.

However, an issue you'll run into is your proof of residency. Your DMV will require things like utility bills or government mail in your name (they have a list of things you can use) to prove where you live, and it's going to be a bit hard to get those that are *not* at your mom's address.

When you leave, take your birth certificate, voter's registration card, and social security card with you. Take your passport if you have one. They are all identification documents you can use.

Make sure you have all your papers before you leave. Check with the DMV in the state you are going for your license. In NJ, you need more then one piece of identification. Anyone can take you. Just make sure you take your birth certificate and any other important papers.
