The first hand-written English language Bible manuscripts were produced in the 1380's AD by John Wycliffe, an Oxford professor, scholar, and theologian. Wycliffe, (also spelled “Wycliff” & “Wyclif”), was well-known throughout Europe for his opposition to the teaching of the organized Church, which he believed to be contrary to the Bible. With the help of his followers, called the Lollards, and his assistant Purvey, and many other faithful scribes, Wycliffe produced dozens of English language manuscript copies of the scriptures. They were translated out of the Latin Vulgate, which was the only source text available to Wycliffe. The Pope was so infuriated by his teachings and his translation of the Bible into English, that 44 years after Wycliffe had died, he ordered the bones to be dug-up, crushed, and scattered in the river!
The Bible is inspired by God, it tells from the beginning of Earth to the end of this World & of the New World to come, it is our guide on life. In 2 Timothy 3; verse 16 and 17 it says "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works". This is very clearly stated in the Bible itself, read it, you shall enjoy it.
The purpose of the Bible is to teach us how to live on Earth, tell us stories about what happened in the past, Tell us the what's going to happen in the future (Prophecy), and tells us how to go to the promised land. The Bible is from God!
the purpose of the bible was to convert people to Christianity. the new testament is supposedly written by Jesus' disciples, but I doubt it really was, since none of it was written until 70 years after Jesus' death.
Its from a collection of frauds and criminals. Its a convenient text used by ancient man to cite in the instance that they are caught by the law for criminal activity. They use clever passages to deceive the law men into letting them go under the basis that "God said it was ok." The rest of the bible is used to run expansive and complex circular logic in order to defeat the courts will to hear the case and dismiss it as well as attempt to justify the book and its writings itself. A stupid person would easily fall for this trick and let the criminal go.
Jesus is the central character in the Bible-the whole book is really about Him. The Old Testament predicts His coming and sets the stage for His entrance into the world. The New Testament describes His coming and His work to bring salvation to our sinful world.
Jesus is more than a historical figure; in fact, He is more than a man. He is God in the flesh, and His coming was the most important event in the history of the world. God Himself became a man in order to give us a clear, understandable picture of who He is. What is God like? He is like Jesus; Jesus is God in human form (John 1:14, 14:9). God wanted us to know about Him. He wanted us to know how things were made and where we came from. He wanted us love Him and believe in Him and live with Him for all eternity. He knew we would sin against Him so He told us about a savior to save us from those sins. He wants to be with us.
It's an ancient book , written by man, in an attempt to explain who, and what we are, where we came from, and our purpose for being here, and where we will ultimately end up. But realizing they didn't know, they just copied down some old myths, and fantasies, and created a god, claiming he gave them this info. You might say they , "bore false witness."
If you read the bible and study ancient history and the university level it becomes obvious that the bible is based on other mythology that was was incorporated to form writing that would unite a group of people under one belief system. The modern version is actually a compendium of books that have been authorized (canonized) as the authorities word of god. There are other books (acrophythia) that are non-canonized but exist and are included in some versions of the bible as reference. If you really want to learn more, college is the only way.
The Bible is a gift from God, one for which we can be truly grateful. This unique book reveals things that we could never find out otherwise. The Bible contains reliable principles to help us cope with life’s problems and anxieties. The Bible is also a heartwarming gift, for it reveals something about the Giver, Jehovah God. The fact that he has provided such a book is proof that he wants us to get to know him well. Indeed, the Bible can help you to draw close to Jehovah.Furthermore, the Bible “is inspired of God.” (2 Timothy 3:16) In what way? The Bible itself answers: “Men spoke from God as they were borne along by holy spirit.” (2 Peter 1:21) To illustrate: A businessman might have a secretary write a letter. That letter contains the businessman’s thoughts and instructions. Hence, it is really his letter, not the secretary’s. In a similar way, the Bible contains God’s message, not that of the men who wrote it down. Thus, the entire Bible truthfully is “the word of God.”—1 Thessalonians 2:13.http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1102005132?q=what+is+the+purpose+of+the+bible&p=par
