After having surgery why does it itch? How do you get it to stop?

Report as

Itching after a surgery is caused by the healing process that takes place and is quite normal. It takes place when the collagen fibers are spreading on the wound in order to start reconstructing the skin. If the itching persist for a long time it could also mean an infection.

There are literally scores of causes for itching (aka puritis), and some are part of the healing process. See here for more information: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/itchy-skin/DS00847/DSECTION=causes
