What country has the best education?

Report as

Iceland...it has a 99% literacy rate (age 15 and over can read). (In my opinion, that's important to me)
According to overall attainment it's Finland. Here's a link:

really is this true
Report as
Iceland ... Finland ... hmmmmm ... probably 'cause it's so cold out, they spend more time learning than playing sports during school ... lol
Report as
Are you questioning both statements?
Report as
I think it's more of a work ethic and cultural attitude, Walt.
Report as
If that were true ... wouldn't the Fins in America have higher education ... as they bring that ethic/attitude here?
Report as
Technically, that is dependent on the country's standard for what makes someone literate. For example, in India, you have to be part of a specific caste in order to be considered literate, regardless of whether you can read or not.
Report as
Even sadder than being illiterate.
Report as
Teaching is regarded as a highly respected profession in Finland. The acceptance rate for applicants to teachers collage is low, those who are accepted are very well trained and well paid. They are not treated as glorified baby-sitters. It makes a difference.
Report as
literacy maybe, but what about arthimetic?
Report as
If you can't read numbers....you can't do math. Literacy opens the door to higher learning.
Report as
@Walt...I'm referring to the work ethic and cultural attitude in their country....what they do in another country is a whole different question.
Report as
I know where I'm going.

Nope. Nice try, but it's Finland tops, Sweden 2nd. And, by the way, would you trust UN numbers? They lie about **EVERYTHING** just to make themselves look good. Never, never, never trust a political organization.
Report as
Never, Never, trust NSA
Report as
No one does, Luiz! Not even the CIA or FBI...which is why they were *forced* to share information after 9/11. Silly, silly behaviour, but that's the US gov't. Hardly anyone is in it for the benefit of the people anymore.

According to the 2009 PISA, China is the highest performing education system. Other particularly high performing education systems are those of Canada, Finland, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and South Korea.

Well, you can't blame them. Look at all the crap they put on TV and the music the listen to.
Report as
In the run up to college, I'd have to agree with you that the USA is quite poor. Once you start looking at our university output, though, the numbers favour the US quite heavily. Best post-graduate education in the world...and yet, they suck at getting them prepared for it. How does *that* happen?

Japan i think too. At least in 2011 i think. Also read this,
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/most-educated-countries-world-102232490.html
Overall Japan, South Korea, Russia, and several places in Europe. Have a better, or as good education that the US. (no offense) But i do know that the US isnt the highest or in the top 5. And maybe not ten, but thats just a guess.

I don't know *where* you get your info, but the countries you listed aren't even *close* to being tops with the exception of SK. It's ALWAYS been Finland and still is.
Report as
Finland is in Europe. Did i mention Europe above? Yes. You didn't even read. And japan IS high up the list. Russia not so much but still counts as high.

The question you are asking is education, not overall "average grade". Most countries kick out the mentally disabled just to get a better "average". If you want a good education, the best country would be the United States.

"Good" being the defining word of that entire paragraph.
Report as
Supergross, your the only other one on this thread with a broad perspective of the situation.
Report as
And by "broad perspective" you mean WHAT, exactly? I don't know *where* or from what background supergross12 gets his info, but it's FAR from either educated or intellectual. Did you just get sold, bluesun?

BTW teacher for 17 years, 6 of them internationally, the rest in the USA.

US is in the 20s. USA is not better it has horrible education
Report as
Depends. In the run-up to college we're pretty bad; after that, however, no one in the world even comes close. Our universities are the best on the planet and have been for a very long time...put paradoxically, our pre-college education system keeps running "behind" others. I don't see how that's possible when the US turns out so many competent and successful graduates from college and university.
Report as
It may be that once high achieving students leave the public school system and enter college they are in classes where the curriculum is taught at a stimulating level and not watered down so "everyone" gets it.

I believe one person summed it up quite nicely. It all depends on what aspect of education you refer to. However, you can find the statistics by searching the top 10 countries for education. Apparently, Scasey789 doesn't know West Virginia is a state and not a country and this country J031 is actually the United States "of" America. The America's are continents (North, Central & South) to say America, I'd say which one? I'm aware the U.S. is frequently referred to as America but in reality it's the United States of America.
