I know this is going to be wasted on the kids but Brigitte Bardot and Leslie Caron.
And so that I'm not altogether sexist -- Maurice Chevalier.

Oh, and one other minor benefit -- the Metric System.

Wine, cheese, baguette (that's a great meal already!); beautiful women, gourmet cooking, French kisses. Enough good things to make one want to go back!

I have been there a few times . . . I am going to select art and cuisine as front runners, although there are many facets to the French culture . . . . .

The truth is that no one has ever been rude to me when visiting their country. I only speak a couple of hundred words in French, mostly basic survival words and phrases, but once you meet them on their terms, they are a quite wonderful people. Too often, travellers from other countries attempt to treat France like an amusement park and expect to be catered to rather that trying to experience its lifestyle, traditions, and customs (this, needless to say, is a bad approach).

I have been there as well and absolutely adored the French. I was in Lyon-- it is such an ancient city compared to what I am used to here in the US. The people were genuinely friendly, the buildings were gorgeous... and the wine, oh the wine was exquisite. My husband and I took a train from the Swiss Alps to Lyon. I died a thousand deaths looking at the scenery. The food was certainly interesting, but I think bloody squab makes a better insult than it does a delicacy. No matter, the wine washed everything down
