How come when we fall asleep and enter a dream it's not weird?

I know, random question, but really: when we go to bed in our bedrooms in our homes, how do we not realize we drift off to sleep into a dream? I have very dreams that seem so close to reality, sometimes it's hard to differentiate... even when there are obvious obscurities like monsters for example. When I wake up, I realize it's "just a dream" despite just being in some other universe and it feeling real. Theories?

Its your brain. your brain knows what its doing, and it lets you know what its doing. The night is the brain's "free time"

Dreams are the sub conscience's mind time to rise and deal with the thoughts and emotions that influenced your thinking while you were conscience. or dreams are only in your head :)

When you dream, though you can see and seemingly experience realistic (and fantastical) things, your mind is not conscious with all the faculties of a waking mind. So generally you don't notice things as weird or that it is a dream. Many people believe you can train yourself to be conscious in a dream without waking up. This is called "lucid dreaming."

When we are awake we frequently go to great lengths to avoid "knowing" our true feelings. For instance we may really envy our best friend for inheriting a lot of money. But recognizing this would make us feel petty. For the same reason, our dreams are often disguised and thus appear weird. Or simply, our dreams can just reflect something we saw on television or heard on the news.
