If you get a warrant do they come and arrest you?

My cousin didn't go to court how long will it take to get the warrant?
Will they just come to their house and arrest them or something?
How long would it take?
They are a minor btw.

It depends what the warrant is for, and how long its been active. Your best bet is t either call a lawyer to help you resolve the issue, or if its not too severe, turn yourself in, go to court, make arrangements to fix it. If you are stopped in a vehicle, you will be arrested, vehicle impounded, that gets expensive.

So if they never get stopped by them or anything and they find out you have a warrant then they will never come after you?

This past spring, I was arrested--AT MY HOUSE--for an unpaid traffic ticket. They also suspended my driver's license. If it's just a traffic ticket, your cousin should call the courts. They'll reschedule the court date. If it's something more, your cousin should still contact the courts to see if they'll reschedule and probably look for some adult help.

Well she said that shes not gonna go to court and skipped it on purpose

But thats crazy that they came to your house for that. Do you live in a really low crime area?

Lol, I have no idea. I saw another post that said something about "warrant roundups." I do live close to the jail I was taken to. It's possible that it was roundup time, and I was very conveniently located :) The officers were very polite. I was able to close the door and go back inside to make some quick arrangements and everything, lol... I was still arrested :(

Yea maybe it was just a easy stop haha did you actually have to stay in jail?

I think I would have had to stay over night. My husband bailed me out though. A court date was scheduled for about a week later, and I paid the fine. From the little I have seen, dealing with minor things like that, I probably would have been held until morning. Then, given a court date and released, but I was scared to death!!! I don't ever want to experience that again.

I can say nobody was rude or violent to me. The place I started in was clean and the people were efficient... They also were making those that were staying overnight shower and change out of their street clothes! As clean and polite as the place was, I am glad my husband got me out before they made me change!

It depends on what was done. For a traffic ticket, sometimes they revoke your license or swear out a "bench warrant." They don't actually come and get you, but if you're caught for any other reason (including another traffic ticket) you're arrested on the spot.

For something more serious (and sometimes traffic tickets, believe it or not), they'll probably show up at your cousin's house to arrest him or her. I don't know if it's different for minors or not, but I'd be contacting the police or court asap. Your cousin might also think about getting a lawyer.

what about for Criminal Trespass and im not sure what their other charge was called but they broke a window

Do your cousin's parents know about this? I'm not saying rat him out or anything, but he needs adult help on this one. If nothing else, there's going to be mail. His parents are bound to find out one way or another.

Regardless, your cousin needs to see if he can score a new court date and plan to show up for it--dress nicely (think church) with an adult present.

Yea they know but dont care im the only one trying to help

That sucks. I really don't like parents like that. Is it possible that your parents would go to court with him? The other choices are to wait and see or to setup a new court date and go without a parent or guardian. None of those options are wonderful. Your cousin's parents need to step up.

My parents usually are the ones that take care of him so they will probably do it

Good! I hope everything works out all right.

It depends on the warrant. What does being a minor have to do with anything? I've seen minors that have committed murder. Just because you're a minor doesn't mean you get a free pass.

Your comment was after my answer. Depending on value/cost of repair it's possible if could be a felony. If that's the case they could pick them up at school or their house.
Report as
its a misdemeanor of 4th degree not really sure what that means but yea.

It means you shouldn't hang out with your cousin.

Normally they wont just come pick you up on a simple warrant but if you are pulled over and they run your name and find the warrant then they will take you to jail. However, there are times that the police have warrant roundups and will come to your home and even your job to pick you up.

Why is it always a cousin? Just stay clear of him, and let his parents worry about it. It's his fault.
