Does one's voice crack just from age (71)?

I have a fairly decent singing voice, clear and I could always hit the note I wanted, except that I never did have enough high/low range. Lately, singing to my CDs, I find that my voice cracks like I'm hitting puberty (!) or wavers and slips off note. I'm going to ask my doctor about this next visit, but am wondering if others experience this. WARNING TO MY NEIGHBORS, IF YOU'RE HERE: I'm still going to sing with my CDs in the house and on the patio; if my voice cracks, live with it.

Voices can change or crack as we age. I sang soprano up until my 30's and then found it more comfortable to sing alto. I knew a few women in their 70's that have switched to tenor. The voice box is a body part that is just as susceptible to wearing out like any other body part.

That's what I figured, but I wanted to check other opinions. Thanks.

Still a good idea to check with your doctor...just in case. :)
