Is getting a tattoo bad for your health?

Because I'm 14 and at 16 I want to ask my G-pa if I could... please help!

Report as

that depends on where and with who you get your tattoo you need to make sure they are a reputable artist that he/she has current safety qualifications and certificates it all depends on how responsible you are with the wound care post tattoo make sure to follow all indications and safety procedures to the letter

no. it's okay but if you get a tatoo...
someday when you want to get rid of it, you'll need surgery to take it off

Report as
Not exactly "Surgery". They use lasers to zap the ink particles and make them small enough for your body to get rid of them. (Takes several treatments though and is VERY expensive)
Report as
Tattoo removal isn't surgery.. it's laser removal.

and extremely painful

It can be. Though few cases are known, you can get ink poisoning from a tattoo.

Also hepatitis from dirty needles-- but I think that's also rare

Only if they don't change the needle. And if they don't, they aren't professional.

I don't think so but almost every one regrets getting one

Not EVERYONE....Just the people who get stupid or bad ones.
Report as
Hmm someone is a bit defensive about this topic hmmmmm?
Report as
Not defensive at all. I just know quite a few people who are very proud of their tattoos. The ones I've seen who DO egret them either got one done by an inexperienced/bad artist or they got one in the rush of the moment (Spring Break, or with friends who egged them on)....and of course the people who get a girlfriend/boyfriend's name tattooed on themselves. (Those are the worst to get)
Report as
Don't regret a single one that I have ..

This all depends on your skin type,
if you are like my friend, who has ezema, (your skin in sensivite) then you should be more carefully.
depends on the size of the tattoo

If you don't take care of it and clean it while it's healing you can get infected VERY badly.

Depending what you want to do with your life it could be bad for your image, they're painful to be removed should you ever decide you made a mistake...

Sooo...... I shouldn't have gotten your name tattooed on me ? That what you're saying?;)
Report as
Yea rite, my first name only, you can leave off the boy part, have never liked that, it's ok, you didn't know :)
Report as
I'm sorry! I actually wasn't thinking of your name being John when I said that. I've used it before on here when joking about good nights. I didn't mean to offend you. I would never purposely do that. :(
Report as
We're good, my name's John, what's yours, never mind, you can just be Ravin...)

I'm glad were good! I actually think of you as #1. If you think about it, that's a pretty good spot. Better than second ! ;)

Look for a more...trustable tattoo place. Because sometimes they don't clean the needles, and you could get someone else's disease.....

Tattoos to me should remain private, if they have a special meaning it should only be special to yourself, in places unseen by the public eye......o.O

NO. Inking is so misjudged that it hurts. You cannot get HIV from tattooing because the structure of the needle doesn't allow the transfer of the virus (the only way you can get it is if the parlor itself is unsanitary). Ask the artist if he uses single-use equipment. Also, note whether or not he is wearing sterilized latex gloves.
