The raw hide bones are good, but there is a product called the 'Ora-pup' that was made by the people who made the 'Ora-brush'. The Ora-brush is a REALLY cool product, and it works. My friend bought one and then eventually, we all bought one, and we don't worry about us having bad breath anymore, lol. My sister says she couldn't live without hers, so maybe you should check into an Ora pup. (and maybe an Ora-brush for yourself) ;)
If it's overwhelming all the time, have his teeth checked by a vet. If the teeth are in good shape, bad breath can mean a stomach problem. For his teeth, have him chew rawhides regularly. Do be aware of his chewing habits before leaving her alone with any chew, though.
Always use something natural (apple slices, carrots) or you could be adding to the problem. Also, if you don't like to brush - or your dog doesn't like to have its teeth brushed - you can wipe its teeth, gums, tongue, and roof of mouth with a cold or warm wet wash cloth, using a good amount of pressure. We do this with our dog, and he doesn't seem to mind! He actually seems to enjoy it (he likes a cold cloth)!
