Well i have two cats and one dog. For a first pet, cats are the way to go because they are easy to care for. All you have to do for then is fill a water and food bowl every couple of days and every couple of days change out the cat box. For a dog, every 4-6 hours you have to let them outside to use the bathroom and then play with them. You have to walk them once a day. Refill their food and water once a day. Brush them once a week because they shed a lot (well my dog does). Also once a week you have to pick up the poop in your backyard. So for a more experienced pet owner I would stick to the dog. For a non experienced pet owner stick with the cat.

Dogs are great when you have time and commitment...but they're not very convenient when you wake up at dawn, go to school for 7 hours, do homework, and then go to basketball practice, and then come home with a dog barking for a walk. Cats are cuddly and are just so cute!
Dogs smell, cats are better to cuddle with, they are calmer, and they don't smell, I have both and dogs are fun to play with are really active and have a lot if energy, so it depends on what kind of person your are
Depends on you, I've had both and they are both great pets! But I think I am more of a cat person, but that may be because I have not had a dog since I was 10. I have two cats right now and they are perfect for my family! But maybe your family would be better with a dog :) so it really depends on which would be better for your family

We have had both. Unless you enjoy taking a dog out regularly in hot or cold weather, a cat is better. They know where to do their business. A Booda Dome is best instead of an open litter box. Also, they don 't make as much noise as dogs. You do have to have their nails trimmed and comb them once a week, but it's much easier and they will love you back the same.
CATS most definitely. Dogs are kind of stupid and warm up to the wrong people all the time. Cats, while aloof, are HONEST. If they like you, you have a friend for life. If they don't like you, Good luck with that!
