There are lots of nail polishes that taste terrible and make you stop biting. You can find these special nail polishes at most drugstores, just ask the staff. Also keep something to keep your hands busy, like putty.
i had that problem nail polish works..........not long my dad got tired of seeing me do that so he made me dip my fingers in VINEGAR they tasted horrible and the smell was embarrasing in school so i stopped and now my nails look beautiful
I used to have this very same problem, and I broke it very easily and the answer (for me anyways) was so simple. Just think about this. My biology teacher saw my chewing on my nails one day and she asked if I would mind helping her with a project. So she took a sample from under my fingernails and placed it under the microscope. What I saw was so revolting I never chewed my nails from that day on. Think of all the things that are under your nails that are going into your mouth. You touch so many things during the day, toilets, door knobs that other people have touched, dirt, you've gone to the bathroom and (hopefully) wiped lol. Seriously, it worked for me. And if that still doesn't break your habit, then I would just go with what everyone else said and buy something bitter to put on them. Good luck! :)
You could always try to embrace your nail biting nature and show self-control and bite them down so there's just enough left of the nail to be useful at things like scraping off stickers from smooth flat surfaces. At that point you aren't doing anything a nail clipper set wouldn't be doing for you. Then look at them. Do you want them to be longer? If so, maybe try the nasty tasting polish approach. It really depends on what you want them to look like. As long as you don't bite them down to unreasonably small nubs that damage the nail bed, there's no need to give up a habit that you enjoy! Then again, it is true that nails collect all sorts of weird stuff. Maybe you should just go the bitter nails route!
If the things already suggested don't work go to the pet store and get some bitter apple or I think there's a bitter orange. These are things that will keep a bird or a dog from chewing or biting on things. It just might help you. I don't think it will hurt you but I'd read on the pkg.

Put nail polish remover on your fingers and when u wash your hands and when u get done washing them put more nail polish remover on or keep ur hands moving like put two pens in ur hands and start drawing or start wrighting
Dip all your fingers in nail polish remover and then when you go to bite them you will taste the bitterness. or if you like to wear nail polish force yourself not to wear any untill you stop biting them. thats what i did and it worked well
I used to chew on my nails constantly. I've found that using nail polish and chewing a lot of gum or eating snacks help prevent that oral craving/fixation. Also try applying fake nails for the first few weeks so you won't chew on them.
you could try distracting yourself by getting some coins and caring them around everiwere you go, or by getting a fake dimond and looking at it all the time, but the best way to stop this habit is by puting tape on your fingers.
yeah nail polish will help a lot think bout if you bite them with it on you could get sick cause you can but try a toothpick really toothpick help with a lot of plp problems like trying to stop smoking or something you know because having that in your mouth just gets your mind off whats bothering you because your gonna be focus on the toothpick and you can bite those two if its a biting problem more than just biting on your nails ya know and buy a pack of suckers (lollipops) same thing just taste better :) hope that helps hun.
There is a special type of nail-polish hat you apply that doesnt taste pleasing. It is specially made for people who bite their nails so that every time that you go to bite them, you will taste something ugly. Hope this helps ;)
This works!!!! I had a bad habit of pealing or chewing them down till it hurt for days. I no longer bite them as a habit. The solution was to put a nail clipper on my key chain. That way it was always with me to clip off loose or jagged edges. You typically dont go far without your keys. Now I rarely ever bite them and if I do it is by choice. Not because I have to!!

Well I have the same problem.Just force yourself to keep your hands down. If you put on some nail polish that might work. If that doesn't work, Put lotion all over your fingers. If THAT doesn't work, put on hand sanitizer.
It's going to naturally come. Don't force it, keep biting them but one day your going to get tired of biting them and tired of your finger nails looking ugly and trust me you'll stop. I was the same exact way. I would bite my nails and my skin, now that's bad. I stopped but I still get an urge to bite them but not like I use to. It's a really bad habit.
I used to have this problem and I have really long nails now. Every night, I would apply nail polish remover on my nails. Then, because nail polish remover is very drying, I would put lotion on the skin around my nails. It worked wonders.
