What's the difference between "GULF" and "BAY"? Is it in a size? Or are they simply synonyms?

Report as

A bay refers to an area of water that's surrounded by land on three sides. A gulf is similar to a bay but it's bigger a bay. It's an extension of an ocean or lake that's bordered by land on three sides. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_of_water.

I agree, but what about Gulf of Mexico and Bay of Bengal? BoB is an extension of ocean and it is bordered by land on three sides...

Body of water- is very useful. Thank You.
