Sociology is the study of human social behavior; institutions, social organizations and development of human society. Sociologists impact society as a whole by gathering data from various research projects.
In my undergraduate class as sociology major, we watched a documentary about the Yanomami of South America. Prior to this particular class, I was unaware that this hunter and gather tribe existed or that this time of civilization is continues to exist present day. It was through this experience that I was able to grow as an individual by embracing the difference of this primitive society in addition to their well preserved traditions.
In my opinion, sociologists have the very daunting task of studying society and producing information that can be interrupted and used by the masses. As a sociologist, one should respect the society in which he or she is studying and not disturb what it in existence. This allows for the most accurate dedication of information to be relayed to the masses. Changes can result for the compilation of information but not by the sociologist. Sociologists should always be clear of their role and respectfully interact with various societies in a manner that preserves that society.
