Well, you can wear fake nails. I have never had this problem, but I have still heard that fake nails can reduce the urge to chomp down on your yummy fingernails!(; Also, hand sanitizer works. Make sure you buy a generic brand, maybe from Wal-Mart, one that doesn't smell like cookies or tropical fruit or mint or candy. It should smell like normal hand sanitizer! Or you could just paint your nails. If you don't like the color on your nails, or you do gymnastics, you could just do a clear coat of nail polish. Nail polish DOES NOT taste good! Especially the clear kind! You could also chew gum. Some people bite down on their nails when they're hungry, not just angry or nervous or anxious or excited. Did you know that when you chew gum, you are tricking your brain into thinking that you are full? So, gum would be a good choice. Try not to get food on your fingers that you can lick off. That will not help you, it will only make you want to sneak a bite on your fingers. So, I hope this helps, and good luck!
i do it when i am never or angry so now i have resorted to squeezing those stress balls or you could just paint them and that will make you stop or just keep your hands always at your sides when you have the urge to do so.
nail biting is very common my g.f and I have the same problem. I had it ever since I was 6,. for me it when am nervous tense, worried or just totally stressed out. its not easy to just stop. some say use vinegar and other things on top but all I did wash them. I wish there was good fast answer. what is best is what causes it and try to stop. its hard , I was able to for a week. but gave in. its like an addiction. some over come others don't. read up on success stories. don't give up. im 41 and I still am trying to quit. it hard.
I have the same problem!! ughh well Its usually comes from stress and when we get nervous or sometimes just bored but anyways I just paint my nails with a clear coat (the thicker the coat the more it will help stop you) also you just have to tell yourself to stop! you can do it!
Really just making the decision to stop did it for me. Of course you'll find yourself biting your nails without thinking about it, so you make yourself stop. Over time you become more conscious of it and are easier able to stop yourself.
-Spray them in perfume (Works VERRYYY well lol) -Put an elastic band on you wrist. Snap it lightly on your wrist every time you catch your self biting your nails. Your brain will start to associate biting your nails will pain and your urge to bit them will go down. -Chew gum instead -Wear fake nails, you can't bite them off and by them time the fake ones fall off, your real nails will have grown longer then your nails will be so pretty you won't want to bite them off:) -Paint your nails
This may sound silly, but it's actually helped me over come the same exact addiction: Just put a piece of tape over each nail of your fingers, and then, when you bite your fingers, it won't feel 'right', and it'll make you stop!
first, get control of yourself, u have a good heart and that's pretty, second put something on your nails u don't want in your mouth like hot pepper juice, tabasco sauce, etc...get your insides feeling pretty. I did it! confidence and guts wahoo !
i bite my nails but um i never tried any of the stuff everyone is talking bout i just don't think bout it and it works i don't look at them and it works but not for long after a week i finally eat them its weird and then i have tried doing everything i could i just never find a solution i hate it its very unattractive to boys or men but it sucks and you know what did work is putting something really nasty that you don't like and it works and my nails are nice and long so try it put something you don't like on your fingernails and then see if it works byeeee!!!!
try n bite your toe nails??.. think back till you first can remember you started biting your nails an what happened to cause nail biting a troubled emotion within yourself you turned it into a habit to release tension on a mood for instance like did you start biting as way to gain security.. what is it your thinking when realise your biting too hide a hurt feeling?? you may try thought training thru subconscious when you go to bed concentrate tell ur ur subconsise i will not bite my nails 5 to 10 mins or till you fall asleep and when you wake up you,ll be thinking i feel great an don,t need to bite my nail if worst comes to worst get a recording done and listen to it it till you fall asleep. you trained yourself to bite your nails so train urself to stop.
apply bitter-guard juice to your nails and when ever you put your nails in your mouth it'll taste bitter by this way u'll stop chewing nails and it help really a lot i have made it to my friend and now she really does not chews it
Put nasty tasting nail polish on all of your nails except for one, which you leave unpainted for biting. Once you stop biting all other nine nails, paint your last one and work on not biting it until you have broken the habit all together :)
You could get shellac nails if they aren't too short and you can't really bite through shellac and they will grow. Shellac stays on for two weeks and you can get a lot of growth in two weeks. I've done it! Good Luck! :)
There is something called "THUM" that you could get from any pharmacy it is specifically made for this type of problem. As other responses it is similar to a nail polish THUM lasts for a long time on the fingers/nails and it prevents you from biting your nails because it has a bad taste to it.
I used to have the same problem til the end of high school. I tried just whenever I had the urge to bite my nails I would think of something else to do with my hands, such as pinching my finger, biting my cheek, painting my little numbs, or snapping. once my nails started growing the urge became less and less it took a while but now my nails are beautiful. note: don't expect your nails to look beautiful the first time they grow out. I don't know about you but I damaged my nail bed/ cuticles so it took a while for them to look pretty again. Also go out and get your nails done like a mani/pedi when they grow out treat yourself for stopping :) hope this helps
There's a special nail-polish-like thing that has an effect of making you hate biting your nails. Once you bite a nail, a disgusting taste will stay for around 10 minutes, it will help you remember not to eat them, and after around 2-3 weeks, you'll quit it willingly.
