Why does my hand cramp up and start to hurt after only a few minutes of writing?

I would love to know why my right hand does this, and I need to be sure that there is nothing physically or medically wrong with me.

Hour hand is cramping because the muscles and tendons are tired or cramped into a specific position too often.

Start doing hand stretching exercises. I used to have a job where I drew animation 8+ hours a day - and at first my hand cramped so bad I wanted to cry! It was horrible! But I started doing stretces amd after a week I rarely got them if at all. You don't have to do anything fancy - just stretch until you feel the muscles that cramp stretch, and do it for 2 or 3 minutes 5 or 6 times a day.

What did you used to draw Raven?

I used to make animated features. Worked on 5 features and 3 direct to TV movies + other various things (video games, commercials etc...)

The reason my hand starts to cramp is b-cuz I am holding onto the pen too tight and pressing on the paper too hard, you can read what I'm writing 2-3 pages deep in the notebook. Could be what's going on with you, or not, just sayin.

Your pressing to hard or how you are holding your pencil

@ RKOGurl6760 and Asiancuty I agree with BE_ICONic. You guys are either pushing to hard as you write or you are holding your pen/pencil the wrong way and it is pressing on a nerve or something in your hand. So, try not pushing so hard as you write and make sure that your pen/penicl feels perfect in the way that you are holding it before you begin to write.

In my case, I use the keyboard too much and write less, so when I do go to write my hand cramps, and my handwriting is similar to that of when I was in grade school.

Because you are used to a keyboard, and that's the real answer. Everyone is just going to confuse you if you listen to them. You should try writing a little something everyday, and increase the amount you write over time. Eventually, much like working out, it will condition you to be able to write much more. Hope this helps.
